Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues taking a rifle into the US ( temporary import on a form 6) that has an optic mounted on it. I have heard people say you can't take optics or scopes across the border. Is this true or is it only if you are buying them in the US?

Thanks

Never had an issue in either direction.

You may be confused in that sure.. You're not supposed to be able to buy optics in the US and take them out of the US without export permits due to ITAR regulations.

If you're worried about CBSA trying to collect taxes/duty on your optic, get them listed on a Y38 before you leave Canada.

What he said^.
When you are coming home , if asked by CBSA, you have to be able to prove ownership. Anything you are worried about get a Y38 form filled out by CBSA before you travel down. This includes nonrestricted. I was once asked about my shotgun. It is now listed on a Y38.
