I have been giving serious consideration to shutting down the Riflechair Website and Youtube channel.

YouTube has cut the channel revenue significantly because of it's gun related content. In December 2013 the RC channel made $85 through ads, That number was halved in 2014 even though subscriptions and views were up. Costs of running both systems amounts to no less than $2000 per year. I was never into this for the money but you can surely appreciate the increased cost of ammo, reloading components and gasoline over the last few years.

The personal cost to me is high and there is no return on investment. I don't look at this from a business perspective but it is money that could instead be directed to an education fund for my children.

What I do get is the possibility that I might have an opportunity to change someone's anti-gun sentiment at my own personal cost.
I have made over 107 pro-gun Canadian youtube videos for many years - apparently without the support of the Canadian gun community.
My supporters are dominantly American. Perhaps it's time to shut down.

I'd like some feedback if possible.
What would you do?

I have enjoyed your video's. Great job.! Thanks for all the selfless effort, time & money spent. Now you go enjoy spending some money this summer on the kids. Win, Win.!!

I am assuming it costs you nothing for the youtube channel , but you are getting revenue from it .

I am also going to assume your website is the majority of your expense .

if that is the case maybe just concentrate on the youtube channel , but figure out a inexpensive way to hang onto your domain name for future use .

isn't there some way to drive more traffic to your youtube channel to increase your revenue ?

I enjoy your videos, clear consise no bs and I regularly use rifle chair.com.but if the juice ain't worth the squeeze so be it

Hi guys...
Im not making any immediate decisions.
That cost is painted with very broad brush strokes.
Im not in it for the money but it seems everything is going up in price.
For example the HD video camera is about die ($$$$$)
It would be nice if the channel paid for itself that way but this isn't how it works.

Thanks for the ideas.

How much traffic your site generates?

Are you using all possible social medias out there to drive traffic to your site/YouTube?

Are you using adsense and other affiliate programs?

I'm sure you could get more revenues with your site.

Sounds like your hobby is costing you too much. You should probably redirect your resources elsewhere.

I'd say kill the website and stick to youtube / full30. If cost to produce more vids is too much you can always leave old ones up(as I dont believe there is any cost there and small revenue may still trickle in)

at the end of the day you have to decide if you still enjoy it or if it's becoming more stress to you than it's worth.
I made this decision with my passion for the m14, the hobby became my fulltime job and several years later, regardless of possible incomes, I wasn't enjoying myself anymore and maintaining the internet presence and keeping up to date on the latest gear, parts and tools...... it all got farrrrr from being fun and in fact the stress nearly put me in the hospital. So I shut it all down and walked away with zero regrets.

I made my decision in solitude, in my tin boat on my favorite little lake and decided on the bright side, I'll have more time to go fishin ;)

do what you gotta do man but at the end of the day, if you enjoy it and feel you have a contribution to make to the firearms community, there are lots of us who would be happy to see you continue

I really like your videos. Is doing gear reviews of free stuff that companies send an option?. I think there is money in that.

Keener,
As a friend and co-worker, my advice is spend your valuable time with your growing family.
I really enjoy your you-tube videos but your family deserves your time more than we, the gun community, do.
Spend your $$ and time on range outings, fishing, camping and hunting with your little ones and your wife.
In the long run, it will pay huge dividends.
