Rifled barrel 410 shotgun

22mag is a common poachers round. A 410 slug has a distinct edge on that

Id like to see what a brass cased 410 could do with pistol bullets of suitable size. Make it a sxs be a sweet mini double rifle for varmints and small game

A .410 slug has about the same power as a .357 mag, but with more limited range, so many better choices. I have often thought about using my .410 Citori for a deer hunt with the ability for two quick shots.

The factory .410 slug loads are hopelessly outclassed by the 357 mag as they be soft lead pills of less than 110 gr. and at pressures well below those of the 357, not to mention the sloppy fit of the slugs in the bore to accomadate the choke. In a gun like the Citori ye may find a fair bit of vertical separation between the barrels on shots beyond 25 yds. Groups will best be called patterns in that rig I reckon.

Now if ye had a paradox rifled gun in .410 with a 3 in. shell tossing a 275-300 gr cast boolit at around 1400 fps and with regulated barrels to hit close together at 75 yds, ye would have a moose dumper for close shooting on an unaware critter. This would be a fair more pricey gun fer sure, but fun none the less.

Fook, now I need a .410 side by side Paradox! :runaway:

No doubt that a 410 slug will kill a deer. But it is literally the worst possible legal choice without making up some custom one off gun. 12 ga slugs are often several dollars a box cheaper. If all you can carry is a 410 because of some physical malady then by all means go for it, but I can’t comprehend justifying using the least effective means.

If you can find a 410 that while put a full magazine into a pie plate at 50 yards you are doing well.

The various rim fires are popular for poaching because they are quiet not because they work so well.
