Rifled Barrel or Rifled choke tube?

I am exploring options for shooting slugs with an 870. I currently don't have either a rifled barrel or a rifled choke tube. I could cast lee slugs and reload these fairly cheaply compared to factory slugs, but will they work with just a rifled choke tube? They should work OK in a fully rifled barrel. Opinions please.

I have a rifled barrel on my 870, I use Brenneke's and Hornady SST's with great accuracy, but as for the rifled choke tube with you slug design I don't know, it may work enough to effect the grouping. The rifle barrel is I beleive designed primarily for sabots, but the Brennekes work great, so you never know. Maybe someone else with experience will speek up.

I don't have any experience with the LEE slugs in a rifled barrel, but they use a standard shotshell plastic wad as a sabot, so I think they would respond well to a rifled barrel. I have only shot the LEE slugs out of my 20" smooth bore rifle sighted barrel and out of my 12.5" grizzly with remington rifle sights installed (both I/C choked). They grouped well out to about 30 yards but at 50 they start to get erratic. Foster style slugs work far better in my barrels at longer ranges...

With factory Foster slugs, I find accuracy is a toss-up between the rifled and modified choke tubes out of my 870. Either is better than improved cylinder, but I don't have to clean lead out of the rifling if I use the modified choke.
