Hi,

Has any one tried using Foster and Brenneke Slugs with a rifled choke tube and noticed any improvement in accuracy compared to using a regular improved cylinder choke?

I don't really think the work. Tried with challengers out of a rem turkey barrel and was disappointed.

I'm shooting challengers out of a win 1300 with smooth bore vent rib with stick on tru glo sights and @50 yards I can keep 3 shots in 1.5".

Funny, better accuracy than I get with Hornady SSTs out of my rifled barrel.

Ok thanks for the personal experience.

You know how most companies will recommend an Improved Cylinder choke to provide the least resistance to slugs, but since these rifled slugs are usually slightly smaller than bore diameter, would stepping up to a Modified Choke offer better accuracy downrange due to a tighter fit/gas seal at the muzzle?

Not sure exactly, but I will be trying on Monday as I just set up another win 1300 to exactly match the gun I set up for my wife (the one that shot the challengers at 1.5" this was with an IC choke).

I've got a mod in my barrel but found another browning IC choke at Fred's gun shop here in town.

Ill update Monday.

Great, thanks for the pending data.

I'm using a Benelli Nova and using Federal Tru-Ball and Fiocchi Aero Slugs. Foster and Brenneke type, respectively.

Have you found Tru-Glo sights to increase accuracy significantly over lining up the mid/front bead setup?

My guns only have a front bead.

And yes I do find they are nicer as you can adjust the rear for elevation by sliding it to the rear of the rib (on the angled part) or keep it up on the flat part.

The low recoil rem slugs my wife is shooting shot about 8-10" high at 50 yards so we were able to put the rear sight to the very back of the rib to bring the impact down quite a bit.

With the challengers out of same barrel they were only 2" high at 50. So I kept the rear sight on the high part of the rib.

Federal Managed Recoil and Regular Tru-Ball Slugs - The managed recoil moving at 1300 FPS easily took a deer and went straight through under 20 yards. Didn't run far and good effect on target. Not sure if a 1560 FPS full power slug will offer much more except for recoil and range if accuracy isn't that great past 50 yards.

Interested in trying these Brenneke-style Fiocchi Aero Slugs, with better penetration and possibly better accuracy further out compared to Foster slugs.

Slugs have a hollow base and fill with gas when fired. Thu expands to fill the bore as Thu travel through . So any choke will work. All we had 20 years ago was full choke guns and we had to use them for everything. Ducks to deer no problem
