I tried some sabots (different brands) in a smoothbore. 2 of 3 shot POA and #3 was a flyer. Rifled slugs were very good.
The rifling on a slug is intended to give a crush zone to the slug as it passes through a choke. This is why it is safe in a choked smoothbore.
Hi, as the title states, can I use rifled slugs in my Fabarm smooth bore 14" barrel safely?
Thanks
Dont use sabot slugs in a smooth barrel. They arent designed for smooth bore, are expensive and they arent accurate. As other posters say, no tighter than an IC choke (improved cylinder). Rifled slugs give really good results up to the 80 yard range when fired out of a smooth bore barrel with IC choke.
General rule ->> rifled slugs in smooth barrel, smooth slugs (i.e. sabot) in a rifled barrel
Hope that helps
For bear you want penetration. Rifled slug, but not hollow point.
