A friend of mine when he was in town picked me up a number of rifled Federal slugs in 20 ga. On the box they say " for smoothbore" and I was wondering if they could be used in a rifled slug barrel?
Would they work at all or would the two riflings cause inaccuracies or maybe a dangerous situation of some type?
The receipts have disappeared so they are not going back.
So, do I have 25 20 ga. slugs I can't use?
Any advice here would be helpful.

with a smooth bore, what type of choke do we use, cylinder? Also, how many yards will the slug be good up to? I mean accuracy.

Open chokes i.e. Cyl or IC ....optimized accuracy @ 50 yds +/- would be the most practical .....foster slugs, or rifled slugs if a rifled choke is being used.

I have fired slugs through a smooth bore Winchester Moedl 12 Field shot gun and have noticed ther no good after about 75yrds vs my slug barrell with challangers is good for well over 200 yrds. Its all in the balance and rifled barrell PS Red Dot sites.Samson
