A .22 for your first firearm is a solid choice to get into the sport, can’t go wrong with any cz rifle for the accuracy right out the box or classic Ruger 10/22 for reliability and lots of aftermarket capabilities. If you wanted to go the center fire route, I would recommend a .223 for light recoiling, modest price on ammo, with solid ballistics. Cant recommend Tikka enough, as their rifles are very affordable, reliable, and have some of the smoothest bolts/feeding. I’d recommend you go into your local firearm store, let them know your budget, hold and run the bolt on a few different rifles. See what fits and feels the best.
