Right hander shooting left handed rifle.

Ok, I am basically ambidextrous and was thinking, could a right handed shooter use a left handed rifle? If you are a right handed shooter at a bench, typically your right hand does all the work. After the shot you reach up and cycle the bolt, some people capture the spent brass while doing so as well. Then you move your hand down and get back on the trigger. Through this your left hand is basically not doing anything.
Now, if you were right handed and the bolt was on the left, your right hand could stay in place, and you left hand could run the bolt.
Wouldn't this be more repeatable, as your trigger hand can stay in place the whole time.
Quite possible I'm missing something, just thought I would ask.

yes it does work, depending on how your shooting, if your using a rear squeez bag, its alot easier to run the bolt with your right hand and keep the left on the bag or you have to reaquire your target every time you let go of that bag. if your shooting with no rear rest and just a bipod it works fine.. personaly i find it alot easier to run the bolt with my right and get back on the trigger then to wiggle my hand back threw the strap of my rear bag

If you're missing your nose, this would be much easier. BONK!

Depending on the rifle, parts of the stock could be shaped for the shooter's handedness. Your weak hand isn't necessarily idle, anyway; it can be tensing the sling, loading cartridges in a LH port, supporting the butt and adjusting the bag, &c. Not saying you couldn't practise and make it work, and I have no knowledge of other shooters doing this successfully in competition, but if it was such a great advantage they would be, no?
 
i am right handed but i prefer to run the bolt with my left. sometimes i buy right hand bolts that i can reach and run the bolt from my left when at a sand bag.

This is what I do, only with the opposite hand. I'm right handed left eye dominate. I shoot right hand bolt rifles with my left. I find it perfect for bench shooting. I find being on the same side that the spent casings are coming out easier to catch said casings. Also I can watch as the next round being fed easier too.

See if you can shoot some ones lefty sometime. You'll know right away if that would suit your style better. Only a suggestion. Cheers.
 
I'm the same as above, shoot lefty, but right handed. If you have loose enough sleeves you can catch the brass in your arm while working the bolt back!
 
I tried a left handed rifle once and when I pulled the bolt with my left hand, I forgot about the right one and ended with a nice little cut on the thumb
then I felt quite dumb and had a little tought for all left handed peoples who have to use right hand rifles

i ve done that a lot in my 20s and i was faster than my righties broher but now i prefer shooting with lh action as a lefty but i can still shoot bot equal ...
