right section ? ever try custom slugs?

I'm just around has anyone tryst to design a new slug if so how did it work? only reason why I want to know is because I am consider trying to make a new slug it would look like the traditional sabot slug but there would be a + on the top of it so when it hits it would fragment into 4 peices I'm just woundering if this could work or shouldn't I try it? at the same time if you were hunting with a 12 gauge would you rather shoot a slug or lead ball let's say the target was 60-70 yards away

For a 60-70 yard shot on game with a slug I would use something the factory stuffed into a hull or a nice hard cast hollow point rifled slug neatly hand loaded at home.

you can try a round ball load but the ones I played with we're more akin to a buckshot pattern then a slug group at 50 yards with 3 separate shotguns.

As for a slug that breaks up on impact... I suppose you could try it.... Every 12ga 3" magnum slug would channel I have seen on deer bear and gopher has been fairly gruesome as the slug starts to tumble thru the body and split up on its own when it touches a bone... Most folks are more concerned with weight retention given the velocity drop at range with a slug then trying to make one purposely split into little pieces... Ive had great success with a single round ball. 69" in 12ga. Also had great success with buck and ball loads.....my personal favorite for defence be beast or man. ...Also tried 3 cast 7mm 130gr bullets in the wad. Cow filler and worked great..just imagine gettin hit with 3 bullets moving 1200fps ish at the same time. Also tried a frag slug....used the 3 bullets again and dipped the tail of all three together in lead then loaded. They flew straight at 25m on paper but i havnt tried for the actual frag test yet. I guess i will this summer and see what happens. Thats what i love about havin an old beater 12ga and a press...can load darn near anything up and try it as long as it is in reason of course. I tried cutting an X in my 7/8oz lee slugs I casted. I think my lead is to soft they didn't separate. Just flatten out beautifully like the un bubba'd ones. There's a factory slug designed to break apart in 3 pieces now. I'm thinkin its winchester as they have the 22lr that does the same
