I'm looking for recommendations.

I have a CZ 457 American, I mounted a bushnell rimfire scope on it. The clarity is great but I find the cross hairs to thick. I have an elite 3500 doa on another rifle and love the cross hairs but they seem to be discontinued. I'm a fan of thin cross hairs, but would also like to keep the price within reason, it is after all a rimfire. Thanks

My centerfire rifles all have high end optics but for a general purpose rimfire I go straight to a Simmons 4X. They are great little scopes for the price. For a hint of a bit more quality over the Simmons, the Leupold rimfire optics are quite nice and fine reticles are available.

I have my 457 mated with a Leupold VX Freedom 4-12x40. It has worked wonderfully for my needs. Nice clear glass and reticle

Best reticle IMO

On my CZ-455 and my Sav B22-FV I have a couple of the Cabelas Covenant-4 in 6-24x50 FFP-SF that are fine out beyond 100yds. The COV-4 is Disc, but now there is Covenant-5 which is quite similar. The reticle has Numbers every 4th bar of a Christmas tree, in MOA to 36MOA. When on Sale might be $100 or so Lower.

I just traded off a 22-250 target rifle on a CZ 457. I had mounted a Bushnell elite 4200 6-24x42 on the 22-250 when I bought it in 2007. At the time I didn’t know much about good target scopes but the Bushnell was in my budget and it looked cool. Little did I know that a scope with a mil dot reticle and MOA turrets was kind of useless for long range target shooting. Anyways, when I brought home the CZ457 I figured the Bushnell scope might work on it. I was a bit surprised how well it fits the rifle. IMO it just looks right, not too big at all.

It’s excellent for punching paper, the downside is the low end of the magnification can make it a bit more difficult for quick acquisition on close range gophers.

One of my 457’s wears a bushnell engage 4-16. It has pretty fine crosshairs, easy to get on the 1/4 inch kyl target at 60 yards. For the price I like it, exposed locking turrets that are easy to set without tools. Other two wear an ep5 and Athlon Cronus

I grabbed a Leupold Freedom for my go-to carry around .22, been pretty happy with it. At the time, it was a toss between that and the Nikon that was available. I actually felt the Nikon had slightly better glass, just could not fall in love with the donuts onna rope supposed drop aiming points on the Nikon.

If you are patient or lucky, and really want a very fine crosshair, look for a used Leupold with the straight tapered cross hair in it, Leupold called it the CPC, or Converging Post Crosshair. Seen it most, in the 2-7 x 33 compact VX1 series.

I had a Leupold rimfire 28mm, 4x. It was compact and light. But it had very fine crosshairs, whereas I like a regular duplex. Otherwise, what a great scope.

Cheers,
Neil

^ ^ There are often 'Classic' Weavers on EE, everything from a D-4 to all the V-*** models. The 'restored' ones go quite pricey.
I was gifted a D4 over 10 years ago, it's now on a Sav-64. And My 2014 Marlin 60 has a Tasco Sportsman Plus 4-12x40 SFP-SF. Can Tire has them on Clearance for $115, what I paid on Sale 5-6 years ago. Super good deal for the money if you can find one. Way better deal than BP/Cab.
PS - I just checked Tasco site and they no longer make the SF (Adj Parallax). Tempted to buy another , WTH.

Is about that you get what you pay for - Tasco (Tanross Supply Co.) has been bankrupt for a number of years - the same corporation (Vista Outdoors ?) that owns Simmons brand name, Weaver Brand name, Bushnell brand name, etc. also bought and use the Tasco brand name. Original Weaver scopes were made in El Paso, USA - I think "Classic" Weaver is a Model name sold by the "new" owners of that Weaver brand name - those scopes are made in Korea or China or wherever - so is NOT the same as the "old" scopes with the same brand names.

Leupold VX Freedom line of rimfire scopes have worked very well for me lately. Great value for the money. If money is tight and you need to get glass on the rifle, then Simmons 3-9 will get the job done.

'Miner, I wasn't inferring that the new "Classic"s were my focus. I meant true "Classic" El Paso Weavers like my D4 and other models that can be found. I wouldn't go out of my way for a "New" Weaver for the prices they are obtaining. Nor are the newer Tasco scopes, but they are in a functional price range just like the Simmonds that are being suggested. I recently bought an Athlon Argos 8-34x56 FFP-SF for my CZ 457 V-MTR that I would recommend if the OPs prive range goes there. The Athlons seem to run in a lower price range vis-a-vis Quality.
