i picked this rifle up a few months ago, i wasn't sure what i was going to do with it but it was a good deal and in good shape. After reading about the 25 rimfire and reading about making ammo for it, i thought about making a center fire version of it using 22 hornet brass. i trim the brass to 28.5mm long and expand it to .249".
it took about 10 hours all said and done but it was a fun project and everything just went really well.
i figured id share this to help get any ones wheels turning if you have thought about doing something like this
for load data i plan on trying black powder and smokeless, if loading smokeless just try for like 950fps (just so i don't have to clean it so much)
the original load was a 65gr bullet at 1150 fps started as black powder and moved to smokeless
the changes i did to the rifle were
-made a new over sized hinge pin out of 4140
-made a firing pin bushing to make me a new surface to work with out of 4140
-drilled and tapped the receiver for the firing pin plug/bushing
-drilled in the the back for new firing pin, stepped the size up to 6mm from 4.75mm but tipped the action so the hole would start in the same place but come out on center
-made a new firing pin from the shank of a drill and hardened it
-made a 2 piece firing pin retainer so i wouldn't have to move the hole location in the receiver.
-made a chamber reamer and reamed the chamber. the chamber was straight .280"at the base and mouth, now its .300" at the base and .280" at the mouth.
