Rimfire and Rules - How Many Are Needed?

The question is whether it's Good Ammo is Good Across Barrels versus Each Rifle will Like Different Ammo.

One view is simple and straightforward, and has one rule.

The other has a lot of "it depends" situations. For example when comparing ammos with a rifle,

-it depends on the make of ammo or​

-it depends on whether the barrel is heavy or not or​

-it depends on barrel length or​

-it depends on still something else​

That makes for a lot of rules.​

Why lock yourself into stupid rules and limitations?

Go out and have fun. Then worrying about small trivial stuff.

I believe each barrel likes what it likes.
My cz453 didn't really impress with any of the match ammo I tried but loves American Eagle and CCI Velocitors.
I admit though I don't spend any time thinking too hard about this stuff.
I've never checked lot numbers etc as im not into precision shooting so I'm not trying to squeeze out the extra accuracy.
If I can get a ragged hole at 50m I'm happy with whatever size it is.

You are chasing your tail trying to look at variables like barrel length and weight in terms of accuracy For sure altering a barrel in any way can theoretically alter its harmonics, heat, velocity, and how it shoots, but to say there is one length or one weight that is more reliably accurate is not going to lead anywhere other than an empty bank account. I mean... Bedding? Chamber Tolerance and ammo tolerance? Headspace? Cleaning? Tuners? Temperature? So many things contribute. But for sure, sure quality ammo and quality barrel are two of the biggies.

Suffice to say, some barrels like some ammos better than others and this can fluctuate between lots.

My LGS does not have enough ammo on hand for me to choose between separate brand lots. I am guessing you have a lot of rimfire cartridges in storage? Yes there are variations between lots though.

Well this jogged a memory.
Waaay back when Mr H invited me to his shewt’in range.
Bring lots of yer 22’s.
Maybe five was the magic numero?
He set uo two large cardbored targets.
They were split down the middle divided by five.
So ten targets on each cardbored.
One for him and un pour moi.
And an assortment of ammo to check results.
It was a great day of shooting.
Also to see what model of rifle cared or not about ammo accuracy.
Them photos are not to be found…….yet.

Jeesh, we had quite the assortment of ker- pows and it was interesting to see the
groups that certain brands made.
One was a Weatherby Mark ###II he had in the collection that dint measure up to the cawf cawf lower quality 22’s.
