Rimfire basics and yes a .22 is a real gun, 10/22 597 ETC!

Refurb - That caveat was added for recent 10/22s, when I got my first 10/22 in the 1990s ALL 10/22s were not supposed to use Stingers. Reading the newer manual it implies that the match chamber is the issue when the problems I have seen with the 10/22 (at least in the past) were tied to the 10/22 firing out of battery with Stinger ammunition and launching a nice bit of the rim and case out the ejection port at very high velocity. Having seen this occur 3x with the standard blued model, I strongly advise that you don't shoot stingers out of a 10/22. That little spring on the recoil rod is not enough to close the bolt consistently on a longer round. Considering that you can get velocitors or other safe hyper velocity rounds I wouldn't shoot them again...
 
Glock, I always value first hand experience, so thanks for the letting me know what you've seen. I went with what's printed in the manual. I wonder when Ruger started specifically mentioning Stingers in the manuals?
 
Stingers were mentioned in the original manuals that I got when I first got my 10/22 -- it looks like they recently changed it to the target model. I am not saying that you can't fire Stingers through a 10/22 - if you visually checked each round and tapped the bolt handle forward each shot you probably could safely shoot it. If you are like me and like to do the "Mexican unload" and fire off the 10/22 quickly I would avoid stingers as it would be easy for an out of battery round to be fired off...

Lapua Standard + - Moderately priced good quality target ammo. No fliers (yet) and I get sub 1" groups at 100 yds with my bench rifle.

Fiocchi Standard - Good, accurate, consistent and cheap. This is all I use for 50 yd shooting in my Savage BV.

Eley Sport - Good target ammo but hard to find. My 10/22 really liked it. For longer range use I've switched to Lapua.

American Eagle - Good, accurate, fairly cheap. I used to use this in my MKIII until I found that 333 was easier to find. The solid point is good if your gun hiccups on HP.

Winchester Wildcat - Don't know if they're still making this. Good bulk ammo that worked in all of my guns but very dirty.

Remington Target - Cannot get consistent results with this in any of my .22s. 50 yd groups were in the 3" range. I only use it for throw away rounds to warm up the barrel.

Your list reflects my experience exactly (using about 6 different guns.) I would also add CCI Blazer as good, cheap ammo worth trying. I have a Beretta T87 that won't digest Am Eagle, but loves Blazer.

This is my Hammerli Model 150. It's a single shot pistol designed for one handed shooting, and so far it shoots SK Standard Plus the best.
It was suggested to me to purchase for practice only, Federal standard velocity. In actual fact, in this handgun, this Federal ammo shot okay at 25 meters. I had a few more fliers than usual, but chalked it up to myself not being at my best. However at 50 meters the Federal could not even print in the 8inch black from a steady offhand hold. A quick switch back to SK, and things were normal again.
As far as rimfire not getting respect, you should see some people's faces at the pistol range, when I staple an 8 1/2x11inch sheet of white paper with a centred three inch black dot "ShootN'See" sticky target for my practice pistol target at 25 meters and regularly hit the black dot using a one hand hold, with the Hammerli!.
I'm kind of lucky with this handgun at our outdoor range because if pistol shooters are firing from 25 or rimfire rifle shooters are firing at 50, I can easily make do with either distances. Not even touching the sights, because sighting spot on is for 25 meters, same sight setting, six o'clock hold, is perfect for 50. I'm downright spoiled!

Edit: Funny thing is, this SK ammo shoots very well but just slightly lower than my hunting ammo-Winchester Power Points for my Ruger 10/22 at the same 50 meters. In a friend's Ruger 10/22, the SK shot terribly at the same distances!

I realize I'm late to the party, but a couple of points came up as I was reading this, and I had a few questions.

I have a HiStandard Supermatic Tournament 6 3/4" bbl pistol. I was told to avoid high velocity ammo given the age of the weapon, and I have been shooting the Winchester 333, (555) bulk, as there wasn't much choice where I bought the ammo. A thread stated 'Bulk high velocity doesn't get much better than this.' Is this ammo considered high velocity, and what constitutes a lower velocity? Makes, types, etc?

Also, a thread mentioned not cleaning the weapon as the rifling was too delicate to take the cleaning? Did I read that right?
