Hello All,

I am looking for a scope under 400$ for my Ruger 10/22 in order to shoot in some rimfire competitions next year.

I am currently looking at the Bushnell Rimfire Optics Rifle Scope 6-18x 40mm 3 BDC, anyone have experience with this scope?

Any suggestions for a Ruger 10/22 scope would be appreciated!

The question to consider is how far are you going to reach out in competition?

If you are taking part in CRPS or other LR PRS events, you will need a lot of elevation travel and that may not be offered in entry level scopes.

Also, the tracking and return to zero may be lacking.. nothing more frustrating then chasing a scope in competition.

There are a number of excellent optics that are well suited to this game. They will cost more then your current budget. LR rimfire PRS is the most demanding optics need wrt to travel and tracking.

Here's my setup. The Ruger 1022 is a stock carbine I bought way back in 1979. I mounted a pic rail on top and on the bottom of the fore stock. I use an offset mount for the scope which is a Vortex Diamondback 4-16X44 with side focus adjustable from 20y to inf. This scope is FFP with side focus. The scope retails for just under $500.00 which is a little more than your $400.00 limit but IMHO, worth the extra $$$ This rig is set up for the Outlaw PRS matches. These are shot at 25, 50, 75 and 100y. Accuracy of this setup is adequate for these matches. I get the speed of an auto loader which is offset by a slight reduction in accuracy compared to a good bolt action. With Eley Club, my setup shoots around 1 MOA. Note that on the scoring sheet below, the first two groups were shot with a clean barrel. My rifle needs about 10-15 shots to "season" properly. Groups sizes shown are 0.830", 0.625", 0.525" and 0.225". The last shot is nice but not typical of how the rifle shoots. If I do my part, 5-shot groups are around 0.5" or slightly more at 50y. The complete rig falls into the Factory class. Full disclosure, I polished the stock sear and modified the bolt release so that I can charge the rifle by just pulling on the bolt handle. I also installed an extended mag release. I experimented with torquing the action screw and found the best accuracy is with about 15 in/lb. The stock, action, bolt assy, trigger and barrel are stock Ruger items.

Good luck with your set up.

I am looking to shoot Outlaw PRS matches in my area first which I believe is max 100 yards? Eventually I would like to shoot a CRPS match.

I am looking for a 400$-500$ scope just to stay in the production division and not break the bank.

This sounds like a scope I should look into for sure, I have the bolt release and extended mag upgrade too which makes it way easier to operate the 10/22.

Thanks for the suggestion!

CRPS includes the Athlon Argos BTR in production... yes the pricing limits have been fluid. Works very well and already taken overall wins in ON matches.

The scope has just been updated on the turret and the price has dropped.... nice!

however, if you are going to play CRPS and other LR rimfire, the distances are getting way out there and will likely increase in the percentage of longer stages. for the 100yds matches, many scopes will work... for shooting to 300m and beyond, you need travel and most entry scopes do not offer enough. And there is reliability of tracking....

Remember that just because there are specs on the side of the box, it may not indicate what is useable. Thinking you can dial and hold with the reticle sounds good on paper but there are some stages where you are moving near, far and everything in between and having the ability to do what you need when you need it, helps a bunch.

I run a scope with 32mils... I have over 20 mils of up travel AND a reticle that is 19mils tall. I used every option that scope could give me at the Western Finale. I know several stages were a real struggle for shooters with more basic scope set ups.

If you have to reach out to 300m and beyond while anticipating some 'interesting' positions at short range, more elevation is a good thing.

PM or email to discuss.

I’ve got two of the Cabelas Covenant scopes, 4-16 x 44, ffp, 30 mm tube and a Christmas tree reticle. Got them on sale for $279.99. They’ve both done well for me.
I have one on my T1X with a 25 moa rail and one on my 455 action with an IBI barrel and 20 moa barrel.
Good luck and shoot straight.

In that case, I suggest looking at the 4x12 Nikon rimfire scope. These have adjustable turrets under the caps and would provide an excellent value at Outlaw matches.

I use one at CRPS matches, but needed to buy a 20 moa EGW rail because I was running out of adjustment at over 275 yards. Thanks to Mystic Precision for hooking me up with one.

At those distance, you would rather have a scope with adjustable parallax, FFP and a Christmas tree retical. None of that is worth paying extra money for Outlaw matches, specially if you want to stay in production.

But if you have extra money to burn and might try CRPS in the future, take a look at the Covenant line from Cabelas, they are at the higher end of the production price point, but come on sale once and a while if your willing to wait to save 100$.
