have a couple of spotting scopes that work well but thinking might need a set of binos for use out to say 400-500 yards

spotting scope on a bipod might not be as handy as binos

side benefit is getting out my wallet quickly when attending a match to buy more stuff, tripod in,hands when walking does not lend itself to closing a quick deal on the run. (ha-ha)

Higher power the better but not to big, just want to see hits and stuff

cheaper is ok as long as it does the job, I have a cheap set of 7 x 35 or 50,I think somewhere but wonder about new stuff as they must be 20 years old or more

400-500y spotting a 22lr with binos?
Im just a novice, but i doubt any bino has enough magnification or HD/ED clarity to see that. Depending on the type of target, shoot n'see type, metal swinger, regular paper?

Prs is metal targets.
I use a 10x vortex bino's work just fine.
My range finder is 7x and works just as well.
It's a little bit nicer having the bigger field of view so I don't have to pan between targets.

Big heavy steel at 300+ will always have a hit indicator light as a .22, so you need very little magnification.

I would like to see that spotting scope on a bipod technique in person.

Regarding binos, there are tons and you didn't really give us any constraints and considerations that would point to one over the other.

Here are some options.

Sig Kilo 10k, are 10x with one of the best rangefinders out there, as well as heads up ballistic solutions from applied ballistics and integration with your smartphone app.

Vortex 18x56UHD, are 18x. What did Cortina say, it's like looking into the future? Though admittedly he was referring to $6k Swaro spotting scope.

Apex recently came out with 10x, 12x, and 12x w/ mil reticle in one eye.

Go for at least 12x high quality and a tripod adapter.

It's not the hits you want to see clearly, it's the misses, and when you do see a hit, you want to see which side of the plate it hit, not just the ding and swing.
