Rimfire PRS

A quick word about safety. Everything posted looks awesome but be careful about ricochets!

We used to do some similar stuff on private land incorporating rimfire size silhouettes and balloons and it was a blast and really helped marksmanship. However a couple years ago some guys did a similar deal on public land with a more active course and what they didn't think through was their misses and ricochets. We were at Blue Lake campground near Boston Bar BC when people began getting struck by ricochets. My brother's utility trailer had one bounce off the fender 10 ft from me. It was a gigantic response from police and I think even armed forces. I wouldn't want something like that to happen again. http://bc.ctvnews.ca/campers-injured-in-bizarre-boston-bar-shooting-1.296790

Everything posted so far looks awesome and safe...well done!

Unfortunate turn of events, news article has little details. At least there were no serious injuries.

Can't see in the photos but our shoot was run on the clubs 75 yd range which has 4m berms and a 7m backstop. Since the metal targets are hinged at the base some of the splatter does go up but anything with any velocity would hit the berms or backstop. The high trajectory piece would be low velocity and if they made it past the berms or backstop they would stay within club property.

Plan is to hold future fun shoots on the 300 yd range so the distances could be extended a bit, maybe out to 150 yards. Our shoots are classed as fun shoots so some of the shooters aren't looking for anything too challenging or that requires special gear, higher power optics, etc. I test my paper targets at 5x and many shooters are using scopes under 10x. Since I print the targets 8.5x14 is the limit in paper size so enlarging the target to be used at longer ranges is not an option.

On nice thing about the rimfire shoots is they tend to get a couple of junior shooters attending with their parents. We seem to have difficulty getting junior shooters involved in the other shoots. These are fun shoots so top shot just gets bragging rights but the shoot is broken down into divisions, semi-auto, bolt action, and junior. Magazine limits are set for some stages.

Not exactly PRS but we did a club rimfire match last year that involved paper targets (Know Your Limits, KIMS, Cold Bore) and reactive steel targets using the Champion diamond pop up targets shooting through a loop hole. Instead of varying the size of the reactive targets we changed how much was visible with props such a buildings, cars and bunkers made out of scrap wood. I took the reactive stage idea from a Sniper Hole Marksman Challenge I saw on YouTube.

This year we will be extending the range a bit and adding more reactive stages.

Which range? Definitely send me an invite, I am very interested.

Is it possible to see the bullet vapour (.22 rim) when using the spotting scope behind the shooter?

Never tried so I don't know. Our last match only went to 70m so it really wasn't required. The intent was to run another match that would stretch out a bit further. Since these are actually fun shoots they are set up to try and encourage novice shooters and younger shooters to come out. It's nice when you can make it a family affair.

Don't know what you guys are using for a rifle but a 25 MOA base is needed. This link will give you an idea. Bryce is from Utah and one of the members from both 22 Marksman Challenge & Long Range shooters of Utah.

rifles used are CZ455 with Lilja barrels, Dip 25MOA rail, Sightron SIII scope

Guy on YouTube hits a target at over 700 yards away quite regularly with a 22lr and the bullets still pretty much went through a thick wood sheet at that range. Crazy I know

New to the forum, and relatively new to PRS. I'm currently trying to trade for a CZ 455 Varmint as my trainer, so I would definitely be interested in a Rimfire PRS match. Some of the earlier posts with the scaled down reactive targets look awesome.

I've seen trace using my rifles own scope while self spotting from 100m to 300yards. The trajectory is hilarious, something like 15 mils of elev to reach 300y.

According to my ballistic data, with subsonic Eley Target, hitting a 300m target, the bullet is 5 feet over the line of sight at 160 yards out. Just set up a Mark 2 for PRS shooting. Can't wait to see how far out I can reach.

rim fire PRS match being held at our club this weekend and there is a 200 yard gong stage. many participants are having a difficult time DOPEing for that stage since there scopes are maxed out of elevations and they will still need to hold over a few feet.
