I have a cooper in 22lr and want to do it justice in the glass department. I only shoot mini mag 40gr round nose .
What would be a good scope for taking the heads off grouse and squirrel at 25-75 yards?
Would the leupold rimfire vr1 series suffice?
Do I need to worry about parallax going in the range between those two distances?
Thanks !

Grouse and Squirrel is not a first/last light kinda hunting.

Current list on the scope you mention is about 340 bucks. For just over half that you can get a Vortex Crossfire II rimfire scope, for about the same money you could put up the Trophy that was also suggested.

I guess it just comes down to whether you want to pay for the name or not. The Leupold is a 2-7X28, the Vortex is a 2-7X32 and half the price. Only you can answer if the Leupold is "twice the scope".

Or a Redfield scope-I regret not buying more when they first came out. Any 3x9 should make you happy but if price is any object the bushnell trophy should be just fine. It's what I put on most of my .17 M2 rifles.

Talking about doing your Cooper justice, Get the 3-9x33 EFR, but also feed it with good ammo.
Not bashing CCI, but a $2000+ rifle should fire other than High Vel ammo. Did you tried Match/Target ammo? try some Subs HP for hunting, you'll be hamazed.

Sightron is what Id be putting on a cooper.
CCI is mud range ammo.
Hirsch has SK and is about the same price but may group better.
I aggree a 2+k rifle shoudnt see bulk ammo.
It would be like putting pump gas in a race car.
Sure it works but isnt the best.

Putting an entry level scope on a Cooper does not do the rifle justice.
The scopes on combo rifle packages are entry level scopes and many are not much more than $50 IMO.
You have a quality race horse and are going to run it in 25 and 75 yard races . . . and feed it oats that have been through the horse once?
There was a recent article on what COOPER uses for their 1/4 inch group guarantee and it wasn't MiniMags.

Vortex on a Cooper? Nope!

Leupold 3-9x33EFR, Coopers aren't cheap rifles. The EFR scope gives you the ability to adjust focus/parallax at close ranges.

I totall agree with PGW steve.

Step up the X range a bit. You will want to shoot farther out. My 452 Lux wears a Bushy Elite 4-16x40, great scope, focus down to 20 yrds. Not a fan of the X fire II, have one on my Scout, it does work. The Diamondback 4-12 is far better.

An elite 6500 2.5-16 x 42 is a real nice hunting scope. I like the range of magnification and the side focus. and the glass is pretty nice. As far as ammo, cci is not mud ammo. if your rifle likes it, why change it?

The Leupold Rimfire has a parallax setting of 50 yards and out. However, I've never owned one...so I can't really say whether or not you'd have issues @ 25 yards. I do realize AO scopes are maybe not 100% ideal for hunting applications, but I just put a Sightron S1 on my CZ452 and I like it so much that I'm thinking my next centerfire scope purchase may very well be a Sightron as well. (not an S1) This is the exact scope I put on my CZ 22; http://www.hirschprecision.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=102_135&products_id=1595

I've had 2 Vortex Crossfires (a series I and a series II) and both failed very soon after mounting them on my rimfires. I also have a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 on my .223, and that has been whacking groundhogs for years. Great scope. The Crossfires? Personally I wouldn't...but the Diamondback is an OK scope. Not as good as the Sightron S1~and I've had them out side by side.

Ammo~if your Cooper likes the MM...don't let these guys dissuade you. :) However, I wouldn't hang my hat on that choice until you've run allot of different types through your rifle. I'd be a little surprised if the Cooper like them best.

Sorry but for the price, imo sightron is better than leupold!
Ive had both, still have the leupold ultralight since sightron dont make an ultralight scope.

That must be the ultralight EFR, not the rimfire EFR. I have the rimfire EFR CDS and it's marked minimum focus range is 10 yards (and it will actually go shorter than that). It is the perfect scope for the OP's Cooper, IMO.

I was thinking this one...which I've been close to buying a few times; https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/rimfireultralight-riflescopes/vx-1-rimfire-2-7x28mm/ (in matte) However, I guess my actions speak loudest...and my most recent purchase was a Sightron S1. Love the thing so far.

I've got the 2-7x28 on my 452FS, it's a great little scope. For more power, I have a Leupold 6.5-20x40EFR, it will focus down to 10yards, this jumps from rifle to rifle. I have a LOT of rimfire rifles, and most of them wear Bushnell scopes from 4-16 Elite 4000's to 6-24G2DMR's. If I had that Cooper, with the intended use that the OP mentioned, it would be the 3-9EFR.

That's what I would do.

I have one on my 452 American in 22 lr and it is a very nice scope for hunting and some pretty good target shooting/plinking.
