Rimfire Scope Ring Problem

Hello all,

I'm having a little trouble with a .22 scope I have. (a fairly inexpensive Bushnell)
The ring don't stay put on the gun, after a few hundred rounds they've moved forward on the receiver.
The rings (weaver-style rings I believe they're called) aren't gripping the grooves on the top of the receiver properly.

Should I use something like loc-tite on the rings to keep them in place?

Any advice you might have would be appreciated.

The rings I have all have the slots that fit in the rail. From the sounds of it, you don't have a sloted rail, correct?

Correct, there is no rail, just two grooves along the top of the receiver.

The rifle is a Winchester Wildcat (same as a Toz 58 I believe) I'm not sure what model the scope is.

I think all it needs is a better grip between the rings and the grooves to keep it from sliding.
That or something like loc-tite to keep the rings in place.

Does the rings have a bump in them to fit into a normal sloted rail?
If so, switch the rings. My guess it there just isn't enough surface area to hold the rings. Myself I wouldn't locktite the rings to the reciever, but that's just me.

Loctite will not work in that particular application. I'm not sure what the best solution would be, perhaps a drop of Super Glue would hold it in place.

sounds to me like you do not have the proper rings for your application. Make sure what you have are rings for 11mm dove tail

It seems to be a pretty common issue with the Wildcat. I had the same problem. The guns are actually made in Russia, as such it's an 8.5mm dovetail, not the usual 11. I think I used cheapo B square 22 rings, the Weavers I had wouldn't work either.
I no longer have the gun but if I find some info I'll post it. It's out there if you do a google search.

Here you go:

In Russia, it would be a Tula Arsenal TOZ 78. A bit of trivia for you--the rifle has a dovetail to mount scope rings on, but while the US uses a 3/8" rail, the Russians use a slightly smaller 8.5 mm rail. With the right scope rings this isn't a big deal, but some scope rings simply won't work on the smaller dovetail.

IMHO, don't resort to "adhesives" to keep your mounts in place. It will simply be a matter of time when glues fail. Figure out if you have Russian 8.5mm, European 11mm, North american 3/8" dovetails, or Weaver spec bases, then get the right rings. It will be worth it...

Well sonofagun, I never would of figured my rings were the wrong size.
That's what I love about this site. :)

I'll have to look around for a proper set of rings.

Thanks for the advice everybody.
