Rimfire Semis- What else is other than 10/22?

What else is out there?the 10/22 seems to be the big guy as far as rimfire semis go- is that marlin any good?

I wouldnt really mind getting a receiver and souping a 10/22 up with after market trigger etc. but are there other avenues I should check out?

The Marlin is supposed to be good but is a tube fed gun which doesn't appeal to some.

I have both the Marlin for more serious shooting and a Mossberg tactical for fun type shooting with bling. Haven't shot my Marlin yet but will soon and will let you know if you want. The Mossy with the 25 shot mag is fun for what it is.

Lot's of people here swear by the 10/22 and others don't.

There's lots to choose from so it's your call.

The Marlin can also be had with a detachable magazine. I like tubes.

There are many flavours of autoloading .22 rifles, it just depends on how moch you want to spend and what you want to do with it and what your tastes are.

The 10/22 lends itself to those who want to customize their rifle. As is, it probably won't be the most accurate rifle you've owned, but it depends on the rifle. I've had them that shot minute of shotgun pattern, and others that shot nice, tight little clusters. Marlins are very accurate but nowhere near as nice to disassemble for cleaning, and when they gum up they gum up real good. Remington makes the 597, while I've never met one yet that would cycle a full 10 round magazine without buggering up, lots of guys like theirs. Savage build the 64, TC has their own as does Mossberg, Browning, and I'm sure many others. Just head into your nearest shop and try some on.
 
marlin 60 or 795, can't beat out of the box accuracy for the price under $200, i have a 60 and it is a tack driver. used it on several occasions to break clays out to 100yards
 
Short answer...any other! lol

Long answer...depends onyou... Do you wish to add bits n' pieces? If you're into the "buy a gun then buy more stuff for it" scene, the 10/22 is your rifle. If you just want a good, functioning rifle, any other .22 will do.

Currently "down" to a dozen .22's...won't tolerate 10/22's in my safe anymore. I do love the MArlins (they've outsold 10/22 for decades but, don't pop up often in the EE...there's a clue), I love my 597 and, my 64's. All available new. For used/older...too many great ones to list!

Voere makes a nice semi-auto, that shoots at 50y with good ammo right along with a good bolt action, stock 10/22 don,t run with the Voere

Yes, let us know. I'm curious what types of ammo you plan to test in it? I have the same model and mine really really likes cci standard velocity.

I'll start with all the cheap stuff I already have. Federal bulk, Winchester bulk and Remington Thunderbolt and see how it groups and cycles. Then I'll try some higher quality ammo.
 
How deep are your pockets ?? Are you after tacti- cool or a regular gun? Have a look at the Browning Buckmark Rifle. Cool little gun, mine shoots bulk Winchester 555 without a hitch, more accurate than most people can shoot. Can post a pic
 
10/22 is pretty much rubbish, unless you like the idea of spending another $300+ to make it shoot straight. A modifier's dream come true with all the aftermarket stuff, but I am baffled as to how that appeals; if you have to buy more stuff for a brand new rifle just to make it work right, how is it worth buying in the first place?

Marlins are cheap while still being deadly accurate and reliable, Savage is a bit rough but very solid. A Cooey semi will live forever though, and put guns ten times their price to shame in terms of accuracy, reliability and history.
 
i have a Marlin 990L and got it with a broken stock. absolutely deadly semi auto to the 100 yard mark. With a 3x9x scope. Have not cleaned it for over 800 rounds of various ammo and still not a hiccup. How many were thru it before i got is is unknown but i have ran over 8000 that i kept track of.
