Rimfire steel challenge

Hello all,

Ipsc idpa and 3gun are all great shooting sports, however they do require quite a bit of specialized equipment and training. To bridge the gap between NRA bulleseye and action shooting sports, i have been investigating starting a NSSF rimfire steel challenge league at our club. Do a quick google search to check it out.

Getting the league off the ground is going to take some work with the club executive, and ultimately approval from the CFO.

I am wondering if there are any other clubs out there (especially in Ontario) that do this kind of shooting. It would be great to get some ideas on accepted target designs, how you run events and if there is an oppertunity to have cross club events. Also, has the cfo ever had any problems with this type of shooting. Currently our club is able to host IPSC shoots with certain limitations to accomodate our range design.
 
Its all about ricochets with the CFO. Got to have a cover around any steel targets. Be nice to have Rimfire Steel Challenge or even Rimfire Metallic Silhouette with rifle and pistol at every Club except indoor Clubs. Heck we've got 160 acre Club and have to get the CFO to approve Shotgun Stands even though the nearest firing bay is 500m away.
 
We shoot rimfire and centerfire pistol, rimfire rifle and pistol caliber carbine in SCSA (Steel Challenge) at our club just west of Calgary. See the rules at http://steelchallenge.com/. AR500 steel for all plates. You do need to get the CFO involved due to the target material and distance to the target.
 
whatever you do for targets, do not use the ones with carriage bolts on the front. They send so much crap back at the shooters (no matter what the people making them say).

if all you are shooting is .22 at them then you can easily have whatever shape/size you want cut out of mild steel (id suggest laser over plasma just for nicer looks) for cheap and a hanger welded on the back easily.
 
Looks like we are getting somewhere at the club. Targets have been chosen and we are in discussions with cfo. Shoud have our first shoot sometime in june.
