Rimfires~does "retail therapy" apply?

Funny, I just bought a .22WMR off the EE a few days ago. While it's definitely not as economical as .22LR, the extra punch should be great for an extra 100 yards or so and should allow me to take coyotes with a bit more confidence.

But, in the case of Santa, you KNOW that he'll be there between the moment you finally fall asleep and when you wake up at the crack of dawn.

With Canada Post, you wonder if the reindeer ALL have red noses........ and are
probably somewhere over Zambia, heading for New Zealand.

While I was away, I guess Santa overflew my neighbourhood.......of Ottawa

2011/02/24 18:51 MONTREAL Item processed at postal facility
2011/02/21 03:39 EDMONTON Item processed at postal facility

Will it boomerang EdmontonMontrealOttawa tonight or tomorrow?

Forgot to clarify my "toy".
GSG 1911 (.22cal LR) that comes with three heights of front sights and a fixed rear-sight.
Neither of the fixed three fronts pleased me (and no mechanical windage).
I'm not enough of a gunsmith (or tinkerer) to buy, online, a similar rear-sight and adjust it to fit, not when most sites say, "needs filing or needs milling......."
So, since I was paying to have it installed I asked for it to be zeroed in at 20yds (the distance at my indoors range. You probably know which one I mean.)

I hope you have fun (while I sit here, displaying and redisplaying CanadaPost's tracking and seeing my gun still in Edmonton.)

ah, Arnprior. i show up there once in a while just for the PPC matches, though me and two buddies are getting a 22LR rifle match going - informal, just for kicks. lemme know if you'd be up for it.

spent $230 at LeB today, and they've got TAX FREE DAYS now (24th to 27th) on most things, so instead of the 10% card it's now 13% and no card needed

Rimfire therapy even works when buying one for someone else. Just ordered a Savage cub with a PINK laminate stock for my little girl who is very excited!

I just succumbed to the therapy also, not 1 but 2!!! CZ 452's, dewey cleaning supplies, extra mags, front rest and bags, several bricks of ammo, Leupold glass, GAWD, what is wrong with me??????

I'll tell you what's wrong with you... you didn't buy ME the rifle I want. :) Sounds like a nice (big) purchase, I bought a 452 Varmint in .17 HMR last fall...has me looking at another CZ in .22 right now. (Scout)

Where did you get the Dewey stuff, and do they ship? Thinking of getting their .17 HMR rod/kit.

Not Arnprior but the RA. Handguns (although I belong to the Rifle section too, I prefer handguns.)

Great tip re Tax-free. I need to buy some Ammo.
Cheers

And my gun was "Attempted delivery (carded) a little while ago. Of course, carded. I'm at work now.

ammo is the exception :p
tax free on other stuff, use your 10% LeB card on ammo

ya, it's a new addiction to me, especially soothing when you realize just how much fun and how cheap it is to shoot compared to, oh i dunno, 357 Magnum.

I can shoot a +P 38 special reload for about 13.8 cents. Rimfires are fun but using price to choose a 22 WMR round over a 357 or 38 special round doesn't seem to work for me.

One of my favourite things to do is spend a nice Saturday morning at the range all by myself doing 100 yard 22LR work with my Savage Mark IIBV, just so you know I'm not a centerfire snob. ;)

ya, my 357 costs me around the same to reload, but the 22 is around 4 cents each and i don't have to bother keeping / storing brass. so there's that. granted i'd never use my 22 for IDPA, so it does have some pretty serious limitations.

then again, i just started shooting rifles (and 22LR at that) so maybe for now it's just the "whee! new stuff!" happening. and i did buy 2 rifles within a month of each other (a 597 TVP and a Mark II TRR)

............. if you live somewhere East (say Ontario) and you send your toy to a gunsmith in, say, BC, to install and zero in a fully adjustable sight and that gunsmith Canada-Post-Expedite-Parcels it and you "see" it sitting in Edmonton for more than three days (are they waiting for the monthly stage-coach?) after three previous days getting from Prince George to Edmonton (could have been carried by bicycle?), it is NOT nerve-relaxing at all.

Does Epps in Orillia not do gunsmithing anymore? Seems like a silly distance to send a gun to have a sight fitted.

Tongue in cheek question, but I'm having one of those weeks where buying a rifle might just be what's required to salvage it. :) As it is a whim, I'm thinking something entirely impractical, and that I won't be able to shoot that often...like a .22 WMR.

Ever buy a rimfire to cheer yourself up? Did it work? lol

Yep, got myself a 10-22 :p

When I'll have the urge again, it might be the Browning Buckmark riffle, half pistol, half riffle.

I'm new to this board (and to the Sport).
I asked around (not everybody, naturally). I even asked the gunsmith from whom I had bought the GSG. He didn't reply.

I had heard (read) a lot of good things about Gunnar.

I'm in the process of learning who gives good service, who carries more goodies, who cares enough to give a bit of an explanation in their answers and who replies, "NO".

I'm learning that Cabela's US won't send a speed loader (for a specific semi-auto) to Canada and that Cabela's Canada won't get it from their USA namesake.

Live and learn.

Welcome to the board, and the sport! Elwood Epps has a great selection of aftermarket goodies as well as rifles, and the offer top notch gunsmithing services. The more you know!

"...thinking something entirely impractical..." Nothing like a rimfire for that. Don't think I'd go with a .22 Mag, but it'd do nicely. Pity there aren't more .22 Mag semi's though.
"...the monthly stage-coach..." Dog sled this time of year.

There is also Jason Spencer at Gunco, in Ottawa. I have always had him do work on my stuff, and have always been pleased.

got my GSG 1911 on fri, took it completely apart and removed mag safety sat, range on sun!

The damn thing wouldnt fire a shot, stripped it again in field, lost a plunger under spring tension in the snow, noticed that I put one part in backwards saturday. Re-assembled correctly! This thing shoots amazing, accurate, great trigger pull (but im thinking I will do a trigger job anyway). Cant say enough good things about it.

PS I emailed blue line activities and they are sending me the part that I lost, free of charge. Now that is outstanding service!
