ring height? remington 700 with 40mm bushnell

I would think you want Medium rings. Check my 700 Sendero thread. There was a space that would pass 3 sheets of paper. After I swapped the rings, there is lots of room.

Depends on a few things (whether or not "Lows" will work w/40mm) ... barrel contour, scope length in relation to optimum positioning for eye relief (scope bell/turret clearance between the rings) and whether or not the bolt will clear some of Bushnell's chunky eyepiece sections. "Mediums" almost always work.

Ive got the Leupold super lows or lows or whatever the fawk there called on my CDL SF with a 40mm objective. It clears fine and looks dandy...BUT lets say you want to carry your gun in your hand through the bush. Your thumb doesnt fit between the scope and bolt...which makes carrying a pain. I have Rugers "mediums" on my 270 WSM M77 and its perfect. Not too high as to look like a goose is shooting it yet high enough to clear my thumb over the action.:sniper:

Lots depends on where you position your scopes. In my case its a matter of sliding the scope as far forward as possible and hopeing its enough. I've managed to mount 50mm Mark 4s over heavy barrels with low rings, and 40 mm on sporter barrels is easy. Bear in mind that every company seems to have their own idea of what low, medium and high mean. A well stocked gunshop with staff that likes to play is invalueable.
