Goin' down the rabbit hole of a DMR M14.
2007 M305 22in
So far barrel indexed, upgraded spring guide rod, going to lop off the flash hider and cut/crown thread for a brake.
Shimmed gas cylinder...also have a Dlask adj gas block sight which will replace the current gas block after the cut/crown job.
Factory trigger ..I got lucky and have a decent one...a lil toothpaste job and she's acceptable...will keep me on my toes !
It looks like I'm getting aprox. .50mm case stretch measuring fired/deprimed commercial 308 ammo....that seems acceptable headspace??
I won't be pushing reloaded cases more than 4 times....and reloads will be tuned to run the action....nothing stiff.
I'm sticking with the Norc barreled action...drawing a line in the sand on $$ so will work with wherever this gets me.
I've just put the barreled action into an Archangel stock.
Was a lil' tedious and frustrating fitting...but she appears good to go now.
Besides trimming/relieving the right side action area I had to bring down the trigger pad area on the bottom of the stock a fair bit to get the trigger housing to close...still closes very firmly but seats properly.
No hammer follow or other probs, function check is good with proper trigger reset/safety function.
About to install a CASM M14 mount.
Plan on either a Bushnell Tactical 10x or Redfield Revolution optic...looking for a tough/reasonable quality/affordable scope in that power range that will hold up to a sound M14 thrashing!!
I've good experience with the Bushy Tac 10x on bolt guns...Have read similar things re the Redfield Revolution??
Any suggestions welcome??
What ring height and design are working well with the M14/CASM setup?
Steel or ally rings? (I bought the ally CASM version)
Height? The Archangel will mitigate any stock/cheek weld/fit issues of course....just want to get as low a boreline with the CASM as possible.
I was thinking Burris 3 screws or the Weaver equivalent?
I'm not going to war with this thing...in fact she'll be a range queen often...some field use but no battle conditions. Are steel/high $$ rings required or will a quality ally tactical ring as previously mentioned work well?
Again....talking about holding zero/staying tight and holding up to the M14 action abuse...not abusive field conditions.
Thanks in advance for any feedback...pepperin' this thread with pics of CASM/optic combos will be cool
