Hi All,

Forgive my newbness... This is the first ever rifle and scope I have bought and trying to find rings that will work well with it is proving to be a bit of a challenge (read confusing). What should I be considering?

The rifle is a Left Hand CZ 557 with the Monte Carlo stock in 30.06. The scope I just scored on a deal is a Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16 x 44 with 30mm tube. My understanding researching is that the CZ 557 uses 19mm dovetail attachment and that seems to be a bit of a unicorn compared to most other systems. Do I need to consider the fact it is a Left Hand action as well? I also was intending to try and keep the mount position on the lower end of the scale but I see chatter about these rifles often needing medium height to clear properly, which is not an issue for me, but I want to make sure I am looking at stuff that works without being a total headache.

Looking online not many companies list fitment for the CZ specifically so should I just exclude any that do not or are there options that work well even though they would be labeled differently? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I saw those but they all are quick release and I just figured I really have no need for changing scopes etc so the other type might be more secure?

you were looking for cz rings and you re left handed that is the only option i know: more secure to what: i got them for a number of years on my 375 ruger and they never moved.
i will say they are on par with the ruger factory ones.

hope it helps you

Sorry I guess what I meant to say there was maybe less chance of the release lever accidentally getting hooked on something during handling etc. Again, totally new to these kinds of things so I am applying my limited logic based on experiences with completely unrelated items that have similar type release latches. As to being secure on the rifle for shooting I am sure there would be no issue, and quite probably it sounds like that does not pose an issue with these as well.

I am thinking then that maybe being for a left handed rifle specifically, that has more to do with the release lever positioning rather than fitting onto a left or right handled model having any actual attaching position differences. Hmmmm... Over analyzing is a curse of mine but in the end I think it will help me get to the right thing for me. Thanks for your insights!

The CZ rifles have a milled slot in the rear receiver ring, on the left side of the rifle. Special rings with a mating leg are needed. CZ make rings, as do Millett, Leupold, and a few others. Sometimes a little bit of fitting is needed to get them to fit. If the left handed rifle has the slot on the right side, the above rings will work by turning the rear ring 180 degrees.
Of the three mentioned, I would rank them Leupold first, CZ, then Millett. However, they are all steel rings that can easily serve the intended purpose.
PS - I also have a pair of vertically split rings with levers (Warne or Talley) for a Brno (same mounting arrgt.) I dont particularly like them as they are hard to set up, and finicky to adjust. They came with the rifle when I bought it, otherwise, I wouldnt touch them.

The Warne rings are nice. Qds are nice if you have iron sights and you may need to use them. They return to zero quite well.
They are easy to adjust if you put the front ring with the lever on the opposite side as the rear ring (which only goes one way).

Warne also makes a fixed ring if you feel QDs are not necessary

Thanks guys!

In the end I ordered the Warne fixed ones from Reliable... They seem solid and appearance wise they are a little sleeker than the Talley ones, at least to my eye. I was going to go with the Leupolds but the fact one looks to attach with a single bolt versus two bolts played with my head and being secure. Again, probably overthinking but it isn't like I can't order other ones at a later date if I am not happy. The price was certainly decent, and was quite pleased reliable had them shipped out the same day. Not used to that these days lol!
