Happy New Year all,

I am putting together a Rem 700 in 300WSM (Thanks Ardent) and need some idea on rings and bases. I have a Burris Fullfield II 3-9 x 40 and I need some assistance in selecting the appropriate base and rings. In the past I have used tactical rings and bases and I obviously don't need the same for this application as it is a hunting rig. What is the best bet for base(s) and rings for my scope set up. I want something that will be economical yet bomb proof. I don't want it breaking on me as some of my cheaper adventures have....usually just when you need it...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

What about the Burris Signature Double Dovetail mount.....anyone used that one?

Jeff

It would probably be fine. I have a Leupold dovetail on my savage 22-250 but I think it is a very cheesy setup to mount rings. I would not buy another one.

Hitzy,

Are you saying the dovetail configuration does not work? Should I be looking at a tactical style weaver rail with screw tighten rings rather than the Burris/Leupold dovetail style?

Does anyone else feel the dovetail type scope mounts are no the best. As I mentioned, I have zero experience with this type of ring...

Leupold Dual Dovetail works great. I have a few rifles set up with them and the lack of moving parts make them very rugged. They are my first choice in scope mounts when I don't require a quick detachable mount. In my opinion the leopold dd bases with the beveled edges look way better than the burris dd bases.

I'm just old school and prefer the 1913/Weaver rail type setups. There has to be millions of the dovetail type setups out there so they are not bad or do not work as advertised. I just don't get the "bomb proof" feeling from them I get from 1913/Weaver rail attached rings.

If I was outiftting a remington rifle, I would use the Talley one peice lightweights. I had them on a Mountain rifle, they work great and only weigh 2 oz.
