With the help of folks on the forums here ive found the scope i want to mount on the savage. A vortex viper pst 6-24x50 FFP EBR 1 MRAD. The savage comes with a 20 moa mount....being that im so new to this i wanted some help with what rings might be best. The vortex precison matched come in low, medium, and high. Sticky recommened high for 50's but what are the trade-offs? Would you recommend diff rings?

As always, really appreciate the experience and advice offered.

Thx!

I do not have a 110 BA, but I had a Savage model 10 action with a heavy Shilen barrel on it with a 20 MOA EGW rail. I used the Vortex PMR-30-87 (low) rings with my 50 mm PST scope. It seems the 20 MOA rail is taller then a 0 MOA rail and it gives you the clearance you need. I have a Remington coming with the same contour barrel, and I will use the same rings/scope combo in it too.

I have great results with TPS rings. Fantastic fit, finish and quality for ~$120. As a matter of fact that is what is on all my precision rigs (including my .338LM) and hunting rifles.

Regards,

My biggest problem is i'll likely order the rings online, just worried about clearance with the lows. Is there a 'rule' for min/max clearance under the scope?

Given the ridiculous rail set up that Savage has put on these rifles you will need a very high set of rings in order for your objective bell to NOT touch the rail. This ofcourse then results in having to max out the adjustable cheek rest and hope you can still establish a cheek weld.
IF you decide that you want to be able to mount your scope anywhere close to your barrel, we offer a plus 30MOA rail that replaces the monstrosity rail that the rifle comes with and allows you to use almost any medium height ring AND you can then get a good cheek weld.

I just checked and the scope rings are high enough to allow a 50mm objective to fit on a flat extended rail.

The other thing I just found out though is the rings we have are for a 34mm tube, so it won't work with the Vortex anyway.

Here it is here.

I have an early model Savage10BA, which has the same rail as the 110BA, the new 10BA's do not have the same rail as the older ones.

I have struggled with rings myself on this rig. Everyone I spoke to said I needed extra high rings to mount the 56 mm objective on my scope. However, after ordering them and installing them, I have all sorts of space below my objective and the rail, approx. 12 mm.
The BA rail has a depression milled into the factory rail below where the objective will sit, plus the rail steps down in height from where the mounts sit, both allowing more room for the objective.

Based on my measurements I am fairly sure high rings will fit my gun/scope, which will bring it down to a more comfortable shooting postition and as mentioned above, I will not have to raise the cheek piece all the way up.

Here is a photo of my gun with extra high rings with a 56 mm objective, you can see the space between the rail and the scope.

However, you mentioned you will also be adding a 20 MOA base. I am not sure of the thickness of the base and how much height it will add, but you may be able to use medium rings with your base.

Best thing to do before ordering is take lots of measurements. If you have any questions, or want me to measure something, shoot me a pm.

Good luck.
