I've mounted my scope on a A.R.M.S mount on my Norc and in order to get the scope to fit I had to take my rear sight (USGI by the way) off the rifle. I'll post photos in a day or so. All the photos I've seen here have higher scope rings.
I'm using Burris Signature rings, medium height I believe.

Is there any value in going higher and mounting the rear sights back on her or just leave it where it is, lower and more comfortable?

Why would you have irons when the rifle is setup for scope???? And you guys out there don't give me the "what if my scope fails" excuse. The MAJOR issue with scoping an M14 is the cheek weld or more like chin weld with the standard stock. Get that scope down as low as you can and put on a pad to raise up the rear of the stock so you can properly cheek weld

Please do post a pic.
I have an M14 now and Oldsmobiler is dead on about height. I'm looking for the very lowest scope mount setup there is for my second M14.
Anyone know offhand what the lowest mount is? I've heard it is the A.R.M.S..

Scopes are much better quality than they used to be, in the unlikely event my scope fails I'll just let the zombies get much closer before I head shot 'em.

IIRC, I had ARMS medium rings with the newer ARMS #18 mount on this one.........

I had to bottom out the rear sight to clear the scope eyepiece.........

So, you were running an ARMS 18 but you couldn't maintain your iron sight zero because your scope was too low and interfering with the iron sight rear aperture? Interesting. Maybe you need some medium rings or mount your rings further forward if that were possible?

Good pics / selection there, Oldsmobiler! Well thought out way of demonstrating that dreaded 'chin weld' when using a high / ring/mount combination. Sometimes duct tape and high density packing foam will work in a pinch.

I'm also keeping an eye on the LRB receivers / builds that Otokiak is pondering because a dedicated scope'd M14 deserves a super mount system like the LRB receiver. Now there is no doubt that the mounts can be compromise (that much).

Here's a couple of photos of my scope as mounted. I just removed the rear sight to clear the bell of scope.

I have to have the scope serviced since the windage knob doesn't click any more but that can wait a bit.

I bought the mount from a local guy. I had met him at Hungry's M14 clinic here at AMA but I saw him selling the mount here on EE. I also bought a synthetic stock from him (now I have three stocks for the one rifle - man I have to make a decision: wood, plastic or USGI fibreglass).

Thanks for the pics Skullboy , I would like to mount Arms 22 Throw Rings on my Arms 18 mount . I believe the ones in the pic you posted are the low ones though .
I have the Arms 18 on my polytech with an Archangel stock so the cheek weld shouldnt be a problem but I want to mount it as low as possible even if I have to remove the rear sights.

I dont have a scope for it yet but 40mm objective size is what it would be ... is that what the one in the pic is ?

height dimensions

ARMS-22LOW Low Rings total height .925" base height.30"
ARMS-22MEDIUM Medum Rings total height 1.15" base.56"
ARMS-22HIGH High Rings total height 1.45" base .81"

The other route I was thinking is to use Millet angle locking rings

Fusiler are those millet rings as well ? Looks good by the way .

Nope. They're 30mm Burris Signature Zee rings.

I like the self aligning inserts and the ability to add mills of elevation to the set up. They're not expensive and come in matt finish. I wish they had Torx screws but the Hexes work fine.

If I could find suitable quick detach rings, I'd probably put the rear sight back on but for the moment, my solution is to just take the rear sights off.

What size of objective ..40mm? , Where do you get them and do you have any pics with them mounted and did you have to remove the rear sight ?

Thanks

I have no pics, but i ran a 10x42 bushnell with these rings, just cleared the factory sights...these rings work good on the Arms18 mount because they are windage adjustable...YMMV

You are correct...........I couldn't remember if they were low or medium.......those pics were taken 7 years ago and that rifle is long gone..........and I haven't used ARMS rings for at least 5 years........
