Stuart shall always be remembered as an esteemed soldier, exceptional citizen, and super member of the shooting community. Had the pleasure of competing and training with him. A true gentleman. I am lucky to have known him for a few years. My thoughts go out to all his friends and family.

Condolences to the family and friends...

For those of us who don't know Stuart, tell us about him..

I did not know him, but I have heard of him professionally: gunsmith, decorated Canadian Armed Forces member... his LinkedIn details his education and such accomplishments.

A loss to this world, he truly is then...

WTF!!!!!!!!!!! I,ve known Stu for close to 20 years we just talked several weeks ago. I've been so busy with work. The last we talked we were planning on going to Sharon again that his leg is healing. Someone pm me with the details please I still cant believe this. For those that didn't know him he was a kind, caring person always willing to teach, to help and never had a bad word to say about anyone, even those that deserved it.

He tought me how to shoot (properly) and was probably one of the most gifted smith's I've ever met. He had a true passion for our sport and gave so much to our community.

He loved making model cars and trucks, could play the violin, had a pet hampster but was not to be messed with when he got into uniform.
He was fair but don't cross the line.

He was a regular at the gun shows, and the off road scene. If he wasn't in his jeep blazing a trail he was out on his motorcycle a Royal Enfield dispatch type of bike. I remember when he drove it to New Jersey and back to go see his family and how brutal it was lol.

If he wasn't biking for kms on end he would be jogging.

He was always the type to lend a hand if you needed it. Almost insulted if you didn't ask if you were in need.

He was a collector of not only milsurp and kit but had an extensive collection of rare firearms. I know he would not want them to go to the smelter especially with his first hand experience seeing other people's collections being destroyed while he worked in the gun room for one of the police forces.

He had been dating a beautiful redhead for the last year or so and was very proud. He'd send me pics of the two of them out and about and I'd ask if he was sure she didn't have a sister as I was also divorced etc. We'd have a good laugh at my expense.

I know after he came back from Afghanistan a few years back he had a bit of an edge to him but I didn't want to push. He was planning on going overseas for a current deployment but could not because of the leg injury. I know he trained very hard before going and was bummed out about the injury that kept him home but I thought nothing of it.

Very sad day for me.

Stuart was the first person I met when i enlisted in the reserves back in 08. He was the escorting member bringing me up to the company lines at Denison. He was also my coworker, friend and mentor. He taught me everything I know about handgun discipline, PRS, and action shooting (introduced me to IDPA, got me into my black badge course, and showed me the ropes of signing up and attending IPSC matches).

At work, he and I always went shooting together. We had spent countless hours discussing the finer points of marksmanship, ballistics, philosophy, ideologies, religion, human behavior, rc cars, classical music, psychology, modes of governance, state of western culture, history, meaning & purpose, and all natures of hypotheticals. I was called by the crisis negotiator moments before his passing on Saturday morning. I wish I could have said more... I wish i could have delayed him just a couple more minutes or even seconds...

Despite everything that has transpired, I remember him fondly. For someone who was not religious, he truly displayed Christ-like behavior towards the least of us. He showed compassion and care to those who needed help and never jumped to a conclusion. He was a calm, reasonable and methodical man of the utmost caliber. Although he had many quirks, "isms", and a high degree of eccentricity, he was nonetheless an astute model of tzadik.

I will pray for you every night. I have coordinated a Holy Mass offered for you on 9 July 2023 0900h at Guardian Angels Parish (115 West St N, Orillia, ON, L3V 5C4). Anyone is welcome to attend. Funeral details at this time have not been finalized.

God be with you.
Rest in Peace, my good friend.

UPDATE: A Memorial Visitation will take place at St. Joseph Chapel – Base Borden (535 Dieppe Rd, Borden) on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m., and reception to follow.
