Here we go again, just when i thought my problem last time was bad ammo. I fired 40 steel cased shells with no problem. Then today I shot 100 rounds of surplus with brass shells, and had 5 shells rip in half. Then I looked at the spent brass on the ground and noticed many of the shells were fractured, and always in the same place. The rifle almost got tossed into the garbage today.

dude

I feel sorry for you. That would suck and pee me off too. My SKS from SIR rocks. have you tried parts form other sks to narrow down the problem. Sheet.
I had a sheel broken in my sks once and it just killed my day trying to get that sucker out of the bore. Don't know.

I'd get that bad boy to a gunsmith, somethings not right in that chamber.

don't shoot it anymore until you have something fixed.

Did you take it out of the stock? Shine a flashlight around where the barrel and receiver meet - do you see any bare metal or a shiny ring?

You may have one of those SKSs with the pinned-barrel-on-a-threaded-receiver... if this is the case, each pull of the trigger brings you closer to irreperable bodily damage.

rather then spend more time, money , get more headache.

since this is a new purchase from SIR, i say send it back.

i feel for you man.

Your headspace is excessive. Either way do not shoot the rifle anymore and take it back for replacement. You are putting yourself at risk by shooting it. You really do not want a case to rip in half, another round to chamber, get stuck partially in the chamber and fire out of battery.

Years ago I had to take a SKS back to SIR because it had problems. They exchanged. I say just get an exchange.

Well here are the pic's ....and I am going to see what I can do about getting a replacement from SIR, or refund. When i called to purchase it they said I had 30 days to return it if I was not happy, and when I tried to a few weeks later, they said miltary surp was non-returnable, so I know they will give me a hard time now that over a month has passed, but I will try. I will try and be diplomatic , but if that does not work I will ask them if a whole lot of bad publicity is worth $165.

Sorry the pic,s are so big, I have no idea how to make em smaller.

Dude - were you born yesterday or something??? Geez. Listen to everyone and take the action OUT of the STOCK. Look and make sure the barrel isn;t unpinning. Firing that thing again after knowing is was case head separating is like ASKING to be dead.

I'm dead serious. You are risking your life shooting that thing!

I'd hate to nominate you for the Darwin award so JUST STOP SHOOTING IT.

Oh...I also found that by taking the bolt assembly and carrier etc. out, I was able to slide the cleaning rod, fat end first, through the broken shell and pull it out with little hassle. Not sure if it was ever meant to do that, but it works :D

I did check way back when It was first mentioned, and as I replied back then I saw nothing coming apart, everything is tight.

As for being born yesterday....I will keep my reply to that to myself

I can't tell from your casing pic but are you using steal or brass cased rounds ?if you are using brass (american eagle) the violent extraction will quite often rip the brass in two or you'll get the stretch ring mid way .if you haven't already done this try steel case rounds my yugo would rip and stretch american eagle brass all day stick in some norinco ammo and my problem was solved .

My dad just called me today and told me he was down at the local gun store and the owner showed him an SKS with a badly splinterd forearm. When taken apart the barrel had a three inch slot cut into it just ahead of the chamber:eek:  the first round the poor slob fired out of it splintered the forarm and part of the bullet lodged on top of the bayonet:eek: the owner said his hand hurt for a week....he's lucky he didn't lose it!!! Next time I buy an SKS (the GDarned things are so bloody inexpensive) I'm taking it apart and inspecting every inch.....:runaway:

Look, I don;t mean to be mean spirited by saying you were "born yesterday" but what's it going to take? Will a friend have to plan an intervention and hit you on the head with a hammer until you let go of that Chinese piece of SH_T???

Yes, some Chicom SKS's are ok, but that is NOT one of them. I've had over a dozen SKSs now and NONE of them ripped brass in half. Not even commercial brass. The fact is your rifle's chamber is either reamed to too big a diameter OR the headspace is horribly wrong.

Either way, shooting it is like asking god to smite you and then walking across a busy highway hoping a vehicle won;t slam into you. It's really THAT STUPID.

what the heck is the problem here??? RETURN IT. Who cares what SIR says. Jsut ship it back with some fired cases. Write a short letter telling them it's unsafe and you expect a replecement. Keep copies.

If it's just laziness over not wanting to degrease a replacement rifle... well... that's no excuse.

STOP SHOOTING IT. Seriously. Please.

Send SIR the pics of what is going on, and tell them to replace said rifle or you will be spreading the word on Canadian Gunnuts that they will not replace it.

I wonder if they got their rifles from Lever.

This has to be another one of those pinned receivers threaded barrel jobs.

DON'T SHOOT IT ANYMORE!
GET IT FIXED OR REPLACED!

It fired steel case shells with no problem. Letter already sent to SIR, they replied back saying they will get back to me.

case closed.

P.S...if i wanted to be insutled I would just call my ex wife, I am sure she could give ya some ponters.Hmmm then again, maybe I should give her the rifle to fire.
