Hi All
I have a Rizzini 20gauge O/U shotgun that is not firing the top barrel. There is no firing pin mark on the primer whatsoever. I have had this problem before and sent it to a gunsmith for repair. It worked for about five years with the odd misfire. I have been told that this is not an uncommon issue with this gun but I do not know this as factual. I would like to have this repaired once and for all and I am now looking for a good gunsmith in Northern Ontario preferably. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ron

Ron,

I don't know of a gunsmith in Northern Ontario.
If you can't find one local, maybe send to Stelios?
Located about an hour north of Toronto.

Is it a B. Rizzini or a FAIR Rizzini?
There are lots of Rizzini's in Val Trompia.
If a B. Rizzini and you have any trouble finding parts send me a message and I can connect you with Filippo at B. Rizzini.

Thanks for the reply. It's a Fair Rizzini. I bought it for my daughter and its a beautiful firearm. I am willing to pay to have it repaired once and for all. Just looking for a good gunsmith.

I had a similar issue with a FAIR/Rizzini some years ago, it was a 20/28 combo and a couple of years after I got it the top barrel started failing to fire once in a while. I took the gun apart and cleaned the trigger mechanism thoroughly with solvent and relubed it. The gun did it again a while later and I cleaned and relubed a second time and the gun has not faltered since. To date I've put around 7000 to 8000 rounds through the 28 barrels and maybe 4000 rounds through the 20 gauge barrels and apart from those two instances the gun has never misfired. In this case, the hammer dropped but the firing pin did not make a significant mark on the primer so I'm presuming that there was something preventing the pin from going fully forward. Flushing the action twice seemed to get rid of whatever was obstructing the firing pin. I've seen similar things happen to other makes of guns so it's not really that uncommon to get a tiny piece of something... maybe a bit of loose sawdust from the stock, to get stuck somewhere and mess things up. At any rate a good thorough cleaning is a good place to start with these things.

I believe your gun has an inertia trigger. These guns can fail to "switch over", meaning the trigger mechanism does not release the hammer on the second barrel. Your post is unclear - does it release the hammer? Is there slack in the trigger when you attempt to fire the second barrel?

When you squeeze the trigger it responds as it should and you hear the hammer click but the upper barrel does not fire. If you squeeze the trigger a second time e then the lower barrel fires. If I flick the switch to fire the lower barrel first instead of the top first, it fires every time. I am only having problems with the top one not firing.
