Hi Jason,
Unfortunately I don't know of any shooting near you. Most of our shooting is at CFB Gagetown, which would be a (more than) four hour drive for you. We have one even (15-16 Circle Training, which would probably be very worthwhile and fun for you) in St., Antoine, which is about three hours for you
All our shooting is done from the prone position. Have you ever been on a fullbore or military range before, do you know the general idea or should I describe it for you?
Our regular fullbore matches offer "TR" (iron sighted target rifle, .223 or .308, using a shooting jacket and sling), and "MTR" (which is .223 or .308, a Harris or equivalent light bipod is permitted, any sights/scope, no rear rest may be used but your hand may be on the ground and support the butt), as well as F-Class proper (like MTR except that you are allowed any means of rear support, which in practice means people use a sand bag of sorts).
In addition to our regular fullbore matches, we have some military rifle matches (15 May, 7 Aug, 28 Aug), which is meant for M14, M1 Garand AR15 etc, Precision matches (sniper-style, with scoped .223 or .308), plus one smallbore (.22 rimfire) match in Woodstock, and a few team matches (which are usually teams consisting of a combination of TR and F-Class shooters), and a few out of province matches too.
You could shoot in "MTR" or F-Class, and as you can see you could probably find something to shoot most weekends.
Your scope should be fine. Does it have a knob that you can turn with your fingers and has numbers written on the dial, or is it the kind that you turn with a coin and has un-numbered has marks? You need to be able to record your sight settings for a particular range, so that you can later return your scope to that setting the next time you shoot at that distance. The distances we shoot are 300m, 500m, 600m, 800m and 900m.
Do you shoot factory ammo from your rifle or do you handload, and if so, what bullets have you successfully used? You generally want to use the heavier target bullets (75 or 80 grains); lighter bullets will also work, but they get blown around a lot more by the wind.
As you can see, MTR and F-Class would be a natural fit for you and your rifle.
