RobArm XCR

"I just got back from the range and I am impressed. Say what you want about the comparison chart and the "two weeks" but the rifle to me is worth it. As soon as another rifle comes in, I'll try to get a bare weight.

On the range, the gun feels light and responsive. I shot from 0 to 200 yards and it was easy to shoot and pointed well for me. All told, I shot another 250 to 300 rounds of wolf through it for a total of 800 to date. Recoil was light with the gas port on the 1st setting. Hits from any field position were easy for me at 150 yards and from prone, easy at 200 yards. This was better for me than I have ever done with an AR.

I shot it off hand at 50 and 100 yards and hits were easy. I am a poor off hand shooter and I felt good with this rifle. I shot the gun with the stock folded and a VFG at 50 and 100 yards and hits were possible, although not quick at 100 yards. What does this prove, probably nothing, but I thought I would see how it would do if you got caught with the stock folded. It did have one fail to feed shooting it this way when I "limp wristed" it. With a better grip, no further problems.

I have shot the HK G36 and 93, the sig 551 series, the AR, the AK, Galil, and FAL. I prefer it over all. I would not say that it is better than the AR as the AR is a darn fine rifle and very ergonomic, but I like the XCR a little better. I always have liked a folding stock and the XCR was ordered with the length of pull that fits me best. I like the lower sight plane and do not plan to use the AR style sights on it. The controls fall into place very, very good as would be expected as they are for the most part the same as an AR. I really like the central bolt catch/release. It is very quick to use with the trigger finger or off hand thumb.

I broke the gun open and it is amazingly clean. The bore does not look like the gun has been fired, the bolt and carrier have a little fowling, but it looks confined to large grooves and open spaces. The chamber is clean and the locking lugs are mildly fowled. Overall, pretty impressive.

The length of the rails is nice compared to a carbine length AR. This is enough room for a bipod leaving a comfortable sized grip area left. A bipod on a carbine length rail is a little tight for me. A midlenght is another story I am sure, but I have not handled a midlenght. The rails appear well made with no sharp edges.

I am quite pleased with the gun."

What setup did you get? and where did you get it from?

So would Questar by any chance be planning to import any? Or is this strictly Wolverines territory.

Also, does Wolverine still have any new M96s in stock?

wolverine is the canadian distributor of robarm products. questar can import, but once all the fees are paid, wolverine would be cheaper i bet. last i heard there are no 'new' M96's around. that product line was put on an indefinate hold for the XCR. two years now.

For .223, I would rather have M96's proven reputation, but that's just me. I just think it's a shame that the company has to hold production of one terrific firearm, in order to produce another. More loss for us enthusiasts...

if you want to join the burnaby division, you must apply with me. bring 100rounds of 223, case of beer, 2 condoms, and a bandage.
  OMG, what are the condoms for POWERWAGON?
it seems to me that every firearm i'm looking for is currently unavailable.the pe90 is just pushing my budget too high.of course the robinson[ non restricted ]xcr or m96 are the most appealing to me.

One of those stupid questions perhaps, but does anyone have a ballpark idea of what the .223 XCR will be going for in Canada?? I want to sell my 16" Colt and am seriously thinking about throwing in some extra for an XCR, a Black Rifle that one can actually use other than at the range!

Buster and Powerwagon, what sort of training do your members do throughout the year, what are the duties of your teams, and how many calls for service do you recieve on average? Sounds like an interesting, rewarding and action packed career.

but what if the XCR is a better firearm?

Well, all the more reason to mourn the 'temporary' loss of M96. Enthusiasts deserve to have all good firearms. Too heartbreaking to see one being sacrificed for another, especially when both are good products...

I'm holding out cash for the 6.8 SPC version.
Since the 5.56 will come first, it'll give me time to see whether the XCR is a failure or not (who knows...)

So how many of you guys are in line for one of these? (besides me)

I was going to buy one. I have now backslid to "I'll believe it when I see it" status. SCAR-L or XCR, one of them is probably going to wind up in my safe one of these days, but I'm not all hot & bothered about them anymore.
