Robarms XCR FAQ post

Have you tried torquing the muzzle brake back and forth with a wrench as per the writeup? Best of luck, hope it all goes well.

Yes I have, many many times. I honestly am not sure what is going on, but gonna finish this one way or another! :)

Thanks for your suggestion.

I did not use a vice in mine (other than my knees). Some patience, and you should definitely get it.

I would try heat with a blowtorch. The pin is likely of a different material than the brake; the difference should have them expand at different rates under heat which theoretically should loosen things up. Worth a try anyhow.

Ground mine down (6.8 barrel) and thought I ruined the threads to the point of no return. Sent the barrel to my smith, he dressed the threads up and no problemo. Works great. Now I have to break in my M. I really like the XCR platforms. Going to be doing a whole lot of eenie meenie this fall.

It is done...

Well sports fans, the battle with my 6.8 barrel's muzzle device is over.....

I was just about to line up the old drill press to make the "Hail Mary" play on this thing, when I figured I would do just a little bit more work with the scribe and a wrench. To my surprise, after only 5 mins, the thing turned for me a tiny, tiny bit! I turned the assembly over and voila; out came the pin!!! A few quick turns later and I was holding the factory muzzle device in my hands; standing over my conquered foe like a mighty......... well, you get the point.

The outcome however was not all good. As I had suspected earlier, I went too far with my grinding, and I did in fact damage threads... ouch. Have a boo...

Thankfully the damage is only to a small portion of 4 or five threads. I think with a bit of work with a very small triangular file, I should be able to undo a bit of the damage. I am pretty sure (read hoping) that this will not have any negative effect on my barrel, the new muzzle brake, accuracy etc; what do you all think?

Well another update.....

I cleaned up the threads, which were in better condition than I first thought, and installed my BABC! It went on great and things worked out very well!

So in the end, the project went well. Yes, I have a few scratches on my barrel, yes I ended up rubbing the crush washer with my wrench; but all in all the BABC is on and looks awesome!

Now to the range!

Good stuff.

Nice to have a community to share this stuff with. Someone here helped me and the least I could do was to give a little back.

Here is are a couple older 'before' pics, for reference. (Yes. I am enjoying my XCR and love to share pics of it)

Glad to hear you were able to get it off. Now post a pic with your BABC on the rifle :)

Can't believe I haven't also posted the updated pictures here too...

Just want to show off my newest rifle. The XCR-L in .556 1/9 with some magpul furniture and EOTech sights.

Beautiful (and expensive:( )

This is the newest version SER #84XX

Let me know what you think!

So the other weekend I took my XCR 223 to the range at Cedar Springs from the 300m line with a 3-9x4 scope on it. I shot a number of 5 round groups at a TR target. There was about 1-2 min of wind with this rifel. I managed to keep it in around 1 moa with 52g BTHP. I will have to look again but I remember that I was getting 3 of 5 in the v and the other 2 were very close.
Very impress with the accuracy of this rifle with my hand loads.

I got my XCR about 18 months ago and love the thing. It is chambered in .223 and is my favorite shooter out of the collection. So far no issues fingers crossed I'm sure it has to do with the .223 ammo though just my .02 on all the issues out there. About a month ago I finaly got some optics on it and turned an all ready fun shooter to an acceptionaly fun shooter!!!!

Took my prized piece out this week on a gopher hunt in southern AB. I’m running a new XCR in 5.56 with a vortex viper 1-4pst. Let me tell you, was it ever unreal gopher hunting with a tactical rifle other than my SR22!! No funky chicken at all (the gophers)!! Thankfully we were far out in the bush b/c I’m sure we would have turned a few heads with the gear we were rockin.

I found the gun to be very accurate at quick snap shots and the viper pst is a fantastic optic for CQB and the occasional longer range shot (~75 yard). Keep in mind my target is about a foot or so tall and not too thick. The gun performed great, and so did my polymer 10 rd AT15 mags (sold by ATRS in CGY). I didn’t even care when I missed, because the gun is so much fun to shoot!

The AT15 mags had issues loading with a closed bolt but were otherwise great. I do recommend them to the folks who like the Lar 15 option.

The only question I have is with regards to noise. The XCR is a bit noisy when walking around. The factory stock seems to wiggle around a bit more than I’m used to and the upper receiver of the gun has a little bit of play (rattles a bit when running). What can I do about this? Is there anything I can Loctite/tighen up to reduce the clatter?
Thank you for your feedback!

I used a strip of electrical tape on the lower receiver to take up the play between the Upper and lower. Hillbilly, but works!!
