I own both the SL8 and the XCR and in my opinion the XCR. SL8 is a bit bulky. I still think AR's feel better, but I know if I bought one I would get caught with it in my truck on some backroad hunting or whatever. So I got the non-Restricted XCR. They are both nice guns. As for accurracy the SL8 shoots pretty damn straight. I sometimesgot sparrows off my Barn roof at 100yds. The XCR shoots straight too. I got a EOTech on it so I don't really know how good. But from zeroing it in I would say it shoots just as good as the SL8. Triggers are nice on both guns. Both function well in winter.

Wasn't last years (or the year before that) Canadian IPSC champion using an XCR???? If so.... I'd say that helps indicate that the XCR can be a very capable gun in both accuracy and speed of use.

As for the HK SL8-6, I have never used or handled one.... I don't like the looks of it, but if it shoots and handles well, then all the power to those whom it appeals to.

Now I do have some shooting experience with a Swiss Arms Sg 551.... and it was only OK for me. I'm a righty and I don't like crossing over the gun to charge the weapon. (I train to never let go of the pistol grip if it can be helped) Also I found trying to dump empty mags a real hassle, you basicaly have to grasp the mag with your support hand in order to remove it. (Unlike with an AR or XCR, where you can dump a mag with your primary index finger, while at the same time reach for a fresh mag) One last #####.... the fire selector is not in a spot that is conductive to rapid and instinctive use for me. I found myself having to mentally think about raising my thumb just that little bit extra to reach the thing, and it was a bit stiff. (Could be all the years of using the fire selector on AR's has got me spoiled)

For my work, I have shot AR's for 19+ years, with thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds down range (I humbly thank everyone of you tax paying members) and it's a wonderful and capable gun..... but I have to say I have found the XCR to be a more zen like experience (though I don't own one (YET!), I have used and handled one), yes there are a few differences to get used too. (generally for the best) They basically fixed any complaint I might have with how to operate an AR variant weapon. ie try to engage the bolt catch on an AR, yes it's easy, but it requires two hands. (same with the Swiss Arms by the way) where as the XCR can be operated while holding on to the pistol grip using your primary index finger. I'm also not crazy about where the cocking handle is on an AR. (to operate it with your support hand requires too much movement) On the XCR the cocking handle is in the perfect spot with the added plus of operating as the forward assist if required. (As stated earlier I'm a righty, so I don't care that the XCR's cocking handle is not as ambidextrous or user friendly for south paws.)

So..... many of my observations are subjective.... but because of my work, my mindset is: I base everything on my training and how quickly I can engage trg's.... and fix things if/ when they go wrong.... and do these things as quickly as possible.

I kid, I kid,

..but seriously

I can see a post by Armedsask soon :D

This isn't personal; Just setting the record straight with regard to accuracy of the two platforms. You are welcome to refute it or prove me wrong.

Setting the record straight would be if you posted an actual field report, not just your opinion.

Just saying...

As someone who shoots IPSC and Service Rifle, I can say that the accuracy and marksmanship required in IPSC is quite low in comparison. SR requires about 2-3 moa (average) accuracy to do well.

The XCR I've fired was about 3-4 moa at best, but I'm looking forward to be proven wrong. If you come up from the Hat, I'll supply the ammo and the range.

I have an sl8 sitting beside my xcr in the safe right now. It's my brother's but I'll throw a scope on it and shoot black hills 68gr bthp out of both. Mind you, I'm not the greatest shot, I hate bench shooting, but I will see if I can shoot well enough to see a clear winner.

If you can, put the same or very similar optics on both and put a variety of ammo through them at the same time.

Just because someone shot it in IPSC doesn't mean it's the best gun.
Time to get real.
I shot IPSC for about 17 years, the best shot can pick up any gun and beat nearly everyone as long as the gun doesn't jam or break. A few years back a fellow from BC was shooting a Glock in Production Class and beating nearly everyone in Open Class (he has a few national titles to his name by the way). Quite an embarassment for those Open shooters.
I'm always amazed to hear about how great or accurate a gun is from people on the internet.
As Beltfed has often pointed out, we never seem to see these people bring their guns and gear to a match.
If you are not a great shot, no offense, you really don't know how what your gun is capable of doing. I have seen shooters who shoot everything the same (Handgun 15 meters, 4 inch group with a Glock, 1911, Sig X5, Walther GSP, doesn't matter what is in their hands, Rifle 100 meters, 4 inch group with AR15, Swiss Arms, .308 Sniper Rifle with 16x scope ect.)
If you like your paticular gun, great, just don't be offended that it's not as good as another gun. Sometimes it's just because of price. XCR $1700 (or whatever), Swiss Arms $3000 +. Why in the world would anyone expect the XCR to be better than the Swiss Arms gun! It should not be better and is not. I accept the argument that the XCR owner is smarter because he got a pretty good gun and can afford way more ammo than the Swiss Arms owner.

BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

The name of that pic is "###_buenos_aires.jpg"

How exactly did you find that pic? :p

LOL. Why must you ask??? :p

A quick Google search for "1911" and then clicked on 'images' directed me there!

I will switch the leupold mark 4 tm/r between the guns. I will also break out some of the q3131a m193, m855 and 52 gr Gopher getters with
10 shot groups.

Ha! That's true. If I did sell it at least I'd make some bucks back. I'm guessing an XCR will decrease in value quicker with usage. Good enough reason to go with Swiss.
Gun not for sale at this time though!
