Hi Everyone, pretty new around here and I appreciate all of the help I received on my previous thread. I am pretty certain I am going with the Robinson Armament XCR for my first "tactical" style non restricted firearm.

Question is...XCR L vs XCR M, please let me know thoughts and why.

I would get the XCR L in .223 and the M in 308 and add the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel.

Is the rifle or the caliber more important to you?

Meaning what is the use of the L or M? Hunting? Plinking? LR shooting? CQB matches?

The .308 and 6.5 will cost more and the rifle is heavier.

I do not hunt and am 100 percent into what I consider to be medium range target practice (500 meters or less).

You’ve answered your own question. Get the keymod L with the lightweight barrel in .223. Bear in mind the XCR-L is not a target grade rifle. You can expect 2MOA on it.

If you’re buying new, why not take a look at the Modern Sporter?

I will look at the Modern Sporter too, is there an advantage to this Rifle over the XCR

If you’re planning on 500m groupings, the MS has a better accuracy claim. Also has AR compatible parts which makes tinkering and customization a lot easier. I’m guessing this is because you don’t want a restricted rifle? If you don’t care, just get a mid- high end AR and you’ll be happy.

The XCR is a fine rifle if you know its limitations. But IMO, it’s not a $3k gun. That’s why, if it were me, I would buy a good one used but not new.

And yes, I’ve owned a L and I still have a M.

I do not have a Restricted License and do not plan on getting one. Range and back is a little inconvenient for me as I plan to do most of my shooting in legal areas (crown land) near where I live. Accuracy is probably most important to me...how do you like the M? How does it compare in accuracy and quality to the MS.

If you are not going to hunt and only target shoot, then you will want to order your RA with a Heavy Barrel. HB option.
For 500 meters target shooting, you will likely want an XCR-M .308 or 6.5 Creedmore.

BTW Wolverine has a used XCR-M in 6.5 Creedmore up for sale.

However, here is the rub, I have an XCR-L in 5.56, and it shoots well for a military rifle. However, no one that I know of is building DMR or match grade barrels for the XCR Platform.

Would you could do is pick up a Stag Arms Non-Restricted upper and lower and have International Barrels Inc. in BC install a match grade barrel in either .308 or 6.5 Creedmore. Add a Geissele trigger, a good Bolt Carrier Group, in Canada or from Brownells, and build yourself a darn good NR AR Rifle for less than the cost of an XCR-M.

BTW I was lucky are getting a very good shooting Black Creek Labs 102, in .308. It took 100 or so rounds to break-in, however, now with a Geissele Trigger (SSA-E), and a high-end Bushnell Scope, the 102 shoots very well out to 250 yards, which is the limit at the nearest range. I may install an IBI down the road if I find the need beyond 250 yards.

My M is in .308. The MS is a .223.

My M is the heavy barrel version. I have it set up like a DMR rifle with a 3-9x scope and bipod. It’s accurate enough for minute of man. Im not a bench shooter and i don’t reload so really don’t know how accurate the gun is. It’s a safe queen that i know i will not recoup what i spent on it 6 years ago. I would love to get a Modern Hunter or Stag-10 but I can’t justify it as I don’t shoot .308 very much at all.

If you’re contemplating the L vs. the MS, I would go MS. Go check reviews on them. For around the same price new, I think it’s a way better rifle than the L.

The only thing I actually enjoyed on the Robinson Arms rifles is the factory trigger is not half bad. Much better than a mil spec AR one.

Thank you! Lots of options but it is definitely getting narrowed down thanks to everyones assistance!

If you’re sticking to within say 500m, I’d lean L vs M. I currently own (and am selling on EE) my L in 223. Not because I don’t like it - I really do and have it setup for a seimilar purposed DMR type function - but because I purchased my first AR recently and decided I only need 1 gun in 223.

If you want to challenge yourself, the 223 will give you more room to work with out at 500 yards compared to a 308 or 6.5. At that sort of range they just because too easy to make consistent hits. Granted, on a semi auto platform you’re not going to benefit from match grade components, but if you reload it’ll really help drive you to maximize your load.

Someone above mentioned going with a heavy barrel for your L if it’s just for target shooting and I have to agree. While I love how light my L is, I’m accustomed to heavier barreled 700’s for my target shooting, and the extra weight would help soak up some recoil. Also, the LW barrel can get pretty toasty if you’re doing a string of 10 from a pistol mag.

Depends on your distance and the type of shooting you are doing. I have an XCR-L competition and a ACR DMR. I personally love both my rifle, but bang for the buck will definitely be the ACR.

I have 3
XCR-L in 223/556 w a 7.62x39 conversion kit
XCR-M in 308 light barrel
XCR-L Micro Pistol in 7.62x39

Like three retarded childern they are all special and great in their own way.

Awesome! And LMAO

I have just discovered the HK G36 and I think that may be the beast I need, I can’t find much reviews or info about it but it seems to be a great firearm. There are too many mixed reviews about the XCR in L and M configuration and it makes me hesitant.

Did you also discover the price tag on a real G36?

If accuracy is what you want, get the HK SL-8. It’s arguably the most accurate out of the box .223 semi auto out there. Along with the FN FNAR.
