robinson arms XCR or H&K sly

Why doesn't everyone mention 6.8 SPC? There's your reason for an XCR right there. Performance is awesome, you now have a viable black rifle hunting cartridge and mine shoots under an inch. Always has. Its taken 7 deer to this point. It's not as accurate as the HandK, I can accept that.... But it's far more useful.

Agreed.

LMAO is all I can say. Trust to do what? Take on the Russians? LOL like honestly man.

I think you're missing what myself and others are trying to get across to prospective purchasers of the xcr.
The xcr is an ok nonrestricted black rifle, but, there are better options in that category that best it for reliability, accuracy, ergonomics and/or build quality.
The fact that you choose not to acknowledge that doesn't make it any less true...

Own a new Gen XCR in .223 and I love it. I didn't buy it for sub-moa accuracy. I bought to plink and shoot/hunt small game, once I am licensed to do so of course. With the plinking Norc ammo, I am able to shoot 2MOA at 100y. I haven't shot quality factory ammo in it yet, but I am sure it would get better. I would be curious to see how the SL8 does with Norc surplus ammo.

As far as ergos, well, not sure what other non-res are better...better than any AR I have held, but ergos are always a personal thing. Bolt release is top notch, so much so there is litigation because of attempts to copy it. I would also never presume to know the quality of a rifle I have never owned, so I can only say I have held the SL8 in my LGS. The "feel" of the rifle and stock are not to my liking at all, but I can see it being a cool bench gun.

Lets just say that I would own neither, if ARs were non-restricted, and that is mainly due to cost versus quality, IMO.

And with the sale they have going on with the 6.8 XCR...dam..

7.62x39 will work for deer as well. What would be ideal is if RA did some big bore calibers like 450 bush or 50 beowulf for hunting

The new generation is coming out now IE Keymod.

There really are no other decent options in a 7.62x39 non restricted either.

Sorry, maybe I worded the question poorly. Which generation rifle did you experience the problems with? Last year? 5 years ago? Just wondering.

how much lighter is the Keymod? And are you having any of the issues RA claims to have fixed with the new design?

He might be referring to the gen right before keymod (2013 maybe?). Wolverine told me that the very first batch of keymod production rifles will be released in Canada and they have yet to arrive.

how many actual generations of the XCR have there been?

and with all this bull#### going on with the bans if you think one or the other would be more in the cross hairs for a change or classification.
this is what stopped me from buying today. with the rcmp wanting to change gun classifications (h ttp://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ban-of-swiss-arms-guns-sows-confusion-1.2562933) anyone think either one will be in the crosshairs?

Seems like you are ducking the question. I believe the XCR was first released in 2006. Internet sources have indicated that the rifle has been improved on in each year since it's inception. So...can you just tell us how long ago it was that you experienced these issues please?

german law is more strict in terms of what guns are allowed to be sold to civilians than our own so that is the safer bet imo.

no, I was asking so to know if there is a definative way to tell which there appears not to be. Usually a manufacturer will mark different generations of the same rifle differently no? The issue that was had with my friends rifle was 3-4 years ago.

Gotcha. Ya I'm not sure there have been specific 'generations' per say? My mistake for using that word. I do however know that they have made incremental changes to the rifle since 4 years ago including new trigger set, new bolt carrier, improved gas system, improved gas system control (no need to stare down the barrel), better folding stock (more solid lock up), better QC on the assembly, solutions to the FTE issues when using cheap ammo and most recently the weight saving keymod upper. I do not own one but I am seriously considering it.

The newer models come with 1 piece op rod and FAST stock.
The newer models also have complete 1913 rails and not the one with the grove in the middle of the rail.

Other than that I dunno how to tell the difference between new generations and old.

All I know is the new generation of XCR L will also come with a different bolt.

Besides what is stated above the most obvious way to tell if your getting one of the improved guns over the originals is to look at the right hand side of the receiver. If it just says "XCR" it is one of the first few years available. If it says "XCR-L" then it is at least a Revision G or newer. This is a definitive way to know you are getting a newer model that came with a fast stock factory and numerous other improvements and not just an old model that had the tube stock removed and replace with a fast stock. I believe the most current Revision "J" and "I" are the only ones coming with the new op rod but even the "G" and "H" are fantastic rifles.

Still amazes me that guys listen to those like Brian who handled a buddies rifle. I won't hold my breath for Brian's buddy to post, or the resale, upon resale member that owns that rifle to post.

OP, the rifle is great. Expense is hard to swallow, but it is what it is. I am going to shoot my CZ858, XCR and Savage tomorrow and enjoy every minute of it.

I own both (XCR-M & SL8) and while the SL8 is very accurate I have had no end of problems with mine being extremely picky on ammo. It won't fire any of the FMJ stuff I could find, Norinco, American Eagle/American Eagle Tactical. So while I do love my SL8, if it came down to one or the other I'm going to keep the rifle that's been trouble free for the past 2k rounds. So my vote is the XCR, but truth be told you can't really go wrong with either! :)
