I have been eyeing up a Robinson Arms XCR-L in .223 and have been wondering how the new series (the keymod) is different then the older versions? What's better/worse? I have been trying to find out everything about this rifle since they do take some deep pockets to purchase.

Cheers, Outcold

The keymod version with a light barrel (important part) is a far lighter and better balanced gun than the previous version with a heavy barrel. This is the most notable improvement.

The lower receivers as of 2014 have also been slightly modified to fit the revamped bolt and buffer design. You can read more info about that here: http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/Blog/March-2014/New-XCR-L-Bolt-Assembly.aspx

I just bought the Keymod and it is driving me bananas. I will get two shots touching and the third will always eff right off into the next county and leave me spitting and gobbing with rage at the shooting bench! I KNOW this damn thing will shoot! I will figure it out eventually.
I do know that it feels like a champ when you go offhand and snuggle up to it. I hear the cool kids are replacing the folding butt stock with AR versions with an adapter...but I kinda like the stock stock. I have a Zeiss 3x9 on mine for now and if I could get it to group with 3 shots straight I would be happier than a clam...

I have the latest XCR before the keymod and yes it is heavy but it is a fantastic rifle, I was in Wantsall in Maple ridge a few weeks ago and held a keymod version and it truly doesn't even seem like the same rifle, it is very thin on the forend with the keymod and very light with the newer barrel I couldn't believe the difference!!

Did you remove and reattach the barrel? I'd go there first, and torque it to spec.

Thanks, KK - I checked it already but only to see if it was tight. Then I checked my scope and it was tight. I didn't disassemble and reassemble it yet but I suppose I should...

Well the cool kids have it right this time lol.....I had the folding stock for all of one range trip, I replaced it because I didn't feel like it was as tight as I would have liked it. I don't want any movement in my stock when I'm firing from any position. Plus it opens you up to all kinds of different options for butt stocks depending on your taste and comfortability

get a hold of wolverine they are awesome to deal with and may be able to trouble shoot it with you.

I'm on about 700 rounds with my new XCr Key-mod and really enjoy shooting the rifle. I love the fast stock..I have zero love for the AR style, not sure why the draw is there but then again the fast stock fits me like a glove and perhaps not with others.
As far as accuracy this rifle is no where near bolt gun accuracy, to expect that you will get one hole groups out of a semi-auto rifle is expecting a bit much. Accuracy claims on the net....id give them about 20% truth to them. Someone might luck out and get a .25 moa group then go and tell others their XCR is a tac driver..but they never can do this repeatedly.
I've owned the very first gen XCR's and now this Key-mod and its a completely different gun. Great machining, fit and finish, slim to hold, well balanced and 100% reliable with cheap MFS ammo. Trigger is OK and the open sights are pretty solid.
To the OP have you tried different ammo? Have you had a buddy watch your technique? Have you thoroughly went through your rifle and optic? We all like to blame the rifle when things dont all go into one hole but there are many other factors.

Cheers!!

The fast stock was the first thing I removed and sold, it looks very cool but I found it to be very disfunctional, the LOP even fully extended was lacking and the cheek weld just didn't feel good, I removed it put on a nice solid dlask AR adapter and now have an ERGO93 on mine and haven't looked back

XCR-L with match grade ammo is 2-3moa\100m at best rifle!

Yeah thats sounds about right for any semi auto. There seems to be an illusion here on CGN that if you "rifle" doesn't shoot moa it's defective or something needs to be torqued down to some exact weight. Lots of new shooters get frustrated with rifles they spend excess of $2000 buying into this fable.

Cheers!!

I can hit my steel plate at 200 yards thats good enough for me. I have bolt action rifles if i want to drive tacks.

Thanks for all the great input guys, I think I am going to try to go for one and mod it up with an AR-15 stock as I like the CAR M4 style stocks the best. Might potentially purchase a rifle scope for it aswell to use for coyote hunting.

You wont regret it man. I love my xcr. I almost bought the kel tec su16 but then i shot one LOL

First Mod everyone should do is add a DPMS JM muzzle break! Works Fantastic with the XCR. Recoil is greatly reduced and shoots ultra flat. Best $40 spent!

I notice a lot of older XCRs on EE. I'm sure they handled the new keymod. It definitely better balanced and more aesthetically pleasing to look at as well. Wrap you hand around the keymod rail and you will be sold!

Where did you purchase the DPMS break from?
