For those of you who were at all curious about the accuracy potential of the Robinson M96 Expeditionary Rifle, let me give you my experiences of today. I recently picked it up from a fellow CGN’er, and had done my homework regarding the accuracy potential of the rifle. I expected it to shoot well, and it does.
Today, I fired 60 rounds; 40 at 100 (4 x 10rds grps) and the other 20 at 200yds, (5 x 5rd grps) I was using the stock supplied iron-site rear “peep”, and post front; very similar to the AR style. Both 100 & 200yd ranges were fired off the bench.
Ammunition was standard factory Winchester (OLIN) 55gn FMJ. Wind was fairly constant from L to R, gusting at around 10-12kph; temp was -7.
The 100yd grouping was around 2”, and got to ½” once I had the gas system adjusted properly. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get down range to get my target or I would have posted it here. Instead, I was able to get my 200yd target, and take a quick pic for reference. (Note the black target – not fun to shoot at from 200yds with black iron sights, in the shade).
Given all of those variables, this rifle delivers some outstanding accuracy. With the proper optics and some hand-loaded ammo, I can see that the M96 has some serious potential.
Something I noticed after I fired my AR: The gas system of the M96 has an interesting characteristic when compared to an AR style of system; When you fire an AR, the direct gas system is pretty immediate, and cycles the bolt/carrier aggressively. When you fire the M96, (and the gas system is adjusted according to spec) the gas piston/op rod system introduces a characteristic delay to the cycling of the action. Your shot is well down-range before the action cycles completely. In addition, the gas system absorbs almost all recoil, so multi-shot recovery is immediate. The last 5 rds on the 200yd target were rapid fire, (I'll assume those are the flyers in the pic...…) but they still placed very well.
In my opinion, the M96 is definitely well worth the investment. I'd be interested in hearing from other M96 owners, and their opinions on accuracy, and what optics they use, or feel work well on this rifle.

There was a recall on the early ones for a bolt carrier and trigger group problem which I never experienced but decided to send the parts in 2 weeks ago and am impatiently 
waiting for them to come home to play again.
