Robinson M96 expeditionary rifle availabile in Canada?

If we can put some heat on the owner through emails or wolverine it might just work, these guns are so much better than the alternatives

Im sure Robinson would do some cool Canadian stuff for us

Wolverine is great. RA not so much. I've seen the interviews with the owner, and heard his comments about Canadians. He may have changed his stance over the years, seeing as his rifles probably sell better up here as non-restricted, than they do in the states, competing against ARs, but there was a time he had nothing but contempt for Canadians and the Canadian market

Having said that, I have owned RA products and do like them. I don't; however, confuse the fantastic service and the willingness to stock parts by the importer (Wolverine) with the sometimes abrasive attitude of the manufacturer

They should've kept making the M96 instead of the XCR which didn't generate any serious mil contract they hoped.
Maybe invested resources into refining the m96 and perhaps a 308 version, etc.

We may see the M96 in production again in the future, but she was always a very expensive rifle to manufacture. She will need some redesign to lower production costs, no promises but both Alex and myself have a soft spot for this rifle.

That is a VERY interesting tidbit.
Cost reduction, awesome thing to attempt!
Amazing as usual Mr Wolverine.

See if he can make them in different calibers (etc..... 7.62x39 & take AK mags)

Hell see if he would ever be interested in making the x39 xcr take AK mags now

Better than the alternatives? In what way? Broken parts, no spare parts, manufacturer who is a little baby who hangs up on customers who get frustrated with his poor service.
The only reason anyone with any sense buys XCR's in Canada is because Wolverine is standing behind them and does all the dealing with Rob Arms.

The M96 was a neat rifle that was too much of a pain in the butt to manufacture and kept breaking so they dropped it. How does that translate into it being a great rifle that's better than all of our current options? Sounds more like a rifle that had potential but Rob Arms f'd it up just like the XCR which has taken them 10 years and however many revisions just to become a decent rifle.
You sound like you either work for Rob Arms or you are one of those guys that owns one (in your case a few) so thinks they are the best. Have you tried an ACR, Tavor, HK SL8 or Swiss Arms? Pretty rare to hear about broken anything with those rifles.
I've never fired an M96 but I've handled one and shot numerous XCR's and I've never been impressed at all, the XCR is one of the worst non restricted options available (getting better each update) and other than the kinda cool looks of the M96 I don't see why anyone would be all excited about them. With all the broken parts people report I would steer clear of them completely.
What's the big deal with the BREN conversion? So what if you can put the magazine in the top. Seems like the dumbest place to put a magazine since it requires sights that look around the side.

Sorry, I don't get it. Rob Arms could close up shop and other than the people who need the parts supply to keep their less reliable rifle functioning I doubt many would care. I say less reliable because they are getting better and it's not like they all fail it just seems less reliable than other platforms.

Great rifles with great support from ROBINSON ARMS

:onCrack:

It's an expensive rifle.
No parts availability. You break something integral and you have the most expensive paperweight on the market...
You can buy an XCR-L for the same price or less as a used XCR-L and have lots of parts availability for it.
I do agree though I like the look of the M96 1000x's more than the XCR. Would get one if they still had parts available over an XCR.

I will give full credit to John Hipwell and Wolverine Supplies for supporting the M96 platform as they resolved any issues our store had when we selling them and not so much the manufacturer. This is the difference when an importer/distributor stands behind parts and warranty unlike a few other distributors out there. Phil.

I had one of the first M96 in country, I believe Bartok was the other person who got the first one, back in 98/99.

Mine worked well and had no issue at all. It is an outdated way of making rifles, while the whole thing can be made with an aluminum extraction tube. Guess where SCAR and G36 got the idea from, stoner 63!

I am not sure it has any general appeal these days, unless they make a closer clone to the stoner 63. I can see people buying it for the nostalgia and keeping the stoner63 from fading into history.

Yes clone it, or, some updated version with other hunt-worthy calibre.

Did this get Auto-corrected?
Should this be "aluminum extrusion"?
