Robinson M96 expeditionary rifle availabile in Canada?

In a dream world KAC would start building stoner 63 based rifles (m96 expeditionary) They already make the stoner LMG so why not! Even then i'd still probably take my swiss arms...

Ive got a swiss arms black special and a m96. Both have their pros and cons just like anything else, but the biggest con for the m96 is no spare parts. I would spend the money on another rifle as mentioned before

Heh heh - the M96 has alot of character, that's for sure - and I disagree that its poorly made - it's actually a really nicely made, tig-welded SS rifle. And it is very cool for someone who can tinker with it (I've set it up Bren style just for kicks, very cool) - it handles & shoots really well. I like mine & am constantly working on keeping it shooting & trying to get/make spare parts.

But I can't recommend it to anyone for all the reasons listed in this post - nobody wants a $2K boat anchor.....if it was still a running platform, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat though.

I had an op-rod break on mine after a couple thousand rounds. The metal around the ejection port is really thin and mine got dented in a bit which put some wear on the cam pin. The later models had alot of problems corrected in them compared to the earlier guns.

All in all they are a pretty good rifle, but as mentioned earlier, the lack of parts support is a big downside. I have heard of some guys having the barrel fall out of the receiver, but I think that would be due to improper installation more than a design flaw.

The bolt cracked in half in mine after about 3K rounds - bad heat treatment apparently - and I had a cam pin shear off as well. I think mine is a later gun, because its had all the "upgrades" (RA terminology for interim fixes for terminal problems due to inadequate prototype testing & field trials) - but it's still going due to some luck I had in getting parts.

I would be really curious to know just how many of these rifles there are out there. I know they made updates to the trigger group and the bolt carrier/firing pin shroud, and the oprod. I plan on keeping mine for a long time, just bought a lathe, so hopefully I can keep it running for a while!

I had the bolt break in half on mine after about 2000 rounds or more, that was back before the xcr came out and parts for the m96 were easily found. I dont use mine much at all anymore

I got one of the first batch imported by Wolverine back like 11 or 12 years ago. Mine never had a problem but I did not put a lot of rounds through it either before I sold it. Talked to the "kid" that did all the wielding at a SHOT many years ago - all the M96 receivers were wielded by one guy in the shop one by one.

It is a legacy system now more or less - I won't buy one for serious shooting.

They use to be commonly posted on this board a few years ago, its been ages since Ive seen one posted.

Would be a nice rifle for someone to pick up the patent on and reproduce with care. Too bad, I was really interested in one until I found out they weren't supported and had issues.

If I didn't have so many guns on the list, I'd buy one just for range trips.

Well we might as well have some pics of the rifles in question. Here's mine. Now it wears a Magpul rail and Tango Down stubby grip on the front handguard.

Here's mine - used it through 2 seasons of SR/SRCQB - bolt broke at the end of last season so I used my AR for the last 2 CQB meets - ready to go for the spring

Is the m96 rifle available in Canada? Restricted or NR? I couldn't find any previous topics in the advanced search. Thanks!:)

The M96 has been well covered here, but if you're considering a Swiss Arms send me a PM. I'm not interested in selling mine, but I wouldn't mind letting you check it out in person if you are interested (as I don't know of any dealers in Ottawa who stock them, and would have one available to check out).

What stock and adaptor set up are you running (looks like a UBR)?

Yeah - its a UBR - the stock adapter came came with the rifle (not sure who made it) - same with the rail (I have 2 of them, one short & one long) - allows me to use low rings & keep everything tight to the receiver - that way I get a good cheek weld.

I installed a flip-up rear sight that works well as a backup with the stock front sight. When I use a red dot (or any zero magnification sight), it works great as co-witness.

I agree and it is a cool looking rifle and has an uber-cool name hahaha , reminds of navy seals in Vietnam. I would imagine it would be a little more dificult for a boutique company to produce as it is stamped steel rather than milled...
