Robinson M96 problem? Maybe?

I took my my M96 apart and the charging handle came off and so did the piece that moves the op rod. Is this normal? should there be a roll pin that holds the two together so they don't come off/apart from the upper receiver?

I emailed Ryan at Wolverine also.

He's saying the XCR will fall apart because it is made by the same company as the M96, Robinson Armaments. The M96 is a well know as a fantastic and reliable firearm that had some teething issue over the yes. A problem with the rifle would pop up and RobArm would have it fixed for free in no time.
 
The RobArms M96 naysayers are always quick to pipe up. But I've yet to hear an actual owner complain about their value for investment. It really does make you wonder if there are a bunch of folks out there with a misplaced agenda.

Those that actually own a RobArm M96 (myself included - the 2nd rifle in the country) seem to be quite satisfied. With literally thousands of rounds down-range? I have no complaints. And yes - I own several ARs. All of which continue to collect dust in the cabinet because I'd rather shoot the RobArm and Swissarms products.

So, my very positive personal experience leads me to ask Scarecrow - "What's your personal beef with the M96"?

Really - based on your opposition I am truly curious. I've had nothing but a good experience with my rifle. Perhaps you have something unique to share with the rest of us?
 
Had I know about RobArms sooner, than I would have bought M96, instead of waiting for XCR right now. What little reviews in AR.com I've read, seems to all indicate the XCR to be above average service rifle. And if RobArm improve XCR like they did with M96, then I've no doubt it would be something special.
 
Yes all the upgrade packs and falling out pins on AR's, Black Specials, VZ's and AK's truly show how they are really in no way better then the M96 which has been discontinued...

Can't wait to see the XCR out for retail (I mean its not behind deadline or anything) and see all those wonderfull upgrades and recalls just like happends all the time with AR's and SIG's...
 
I thought all those upgrades and recalls on AR's happened over last 45 years.

who knows? Maybe after 40 or so years of upgrade and refinements, then maybe XCR would be as widely recognized as ARs...

p.s. I've heard that M96 isn't discontinued, but the production is on hold, due to RobArm's lack of production capacity, and they had to make room for XCR production. If that is true, then I don't see how anyone can blame RobArm, as they aren't in the same league as other more established manufacturers.

Bahhh - don't mind Scarecrow. Robarm has done a grand total of two factory upgrades to the M96. I would remind folks that the rifle was (in the 2002 timeframe) a totally new design. The upgrades were done at no cost to the owner, and were minor in functional nature. In contrast, the AR-15/M-16 has been on the street since the early 1960s. Refinement and "upgrades" continue to this day. Go figure....

Some people will piss and moan just to hear themselves burble. Those of us who actually OWN an M96 can't speak highly enough about them, nor their Canadian dealer. The fact remains that my ARs collect dust. My M96 goes to the range. "Nough said.
 
I just hate to see biased opinions on any Firearms. People who doesn't like RobArm rifles bash it on the ground of their personal opnions, but other who doesn't like ARs do the same. I thought we are all firearm enthusiasts. I've been here long enough to hear all sides, and frankly, all rifles have problems. I just think we should be inputing more positive attitute towards all firearms. Lord knows there are people out there who doesn't want us to have any at all...
