ROCHELLE the tuktu(caribou) slayer ...

I heard of some who hunt moose with SKS and put into the mag 4 FMJs followed with one HP, because SKS recoil damages the tips of the bullets in the mag and the FMJs essentially become soft-tips after the first shot :)

No.4 bolt maintenance

There is a special pin-type screwdriver to remove the striker on a No.4 bolt, but just about the same end results can be obtained by soaking. If you unscrew the bolt head the firing pic is exposed. Soak it in diesel fuel or any penetrating oil to remove oil and grease. Heating the whole thing in HOT HOT water will soften the gunk. Reoil carefully and reassemble.

Jason Nope

Big game in nunavut we find that FMJ's work the best's but after studeys with the barnes solids they are flawless.

NTI has it's own reloading group for testing in Nunavut (calibers) (grains)

the last Bowhead whale hunt in the Kivalliq they had a 375H&H with Barnes solids 300 grains went in and came out sixteen feet on the other side.

stephen492, hunting tuktu(caribou) with a .223 rifle is quite a bit different than hunting mid-size wildlife in the south I'M SURE as you folks have bush to deal with, animals that don't don't travel in large herds(I think anyway as most deer are alone???), etc ... tuktu(caribou) are a real dumb animal in my opinion and won't run too far from you ... so hunting them with a .223 and getting head/neck shots is the way up here ... as you can get so close to acheive those types of shots! The 3 tuktu(caribou) my best pal got with my PE90 were neck/head shots ... he did shoot 1 of them twice mind you ... ;) I know this arguement has been on the board off and on forever ... it is DIFFERENT up here as you can get real damn close! I'm sure there are a million others here who would disagree on the choice of calibre! Cheers,

Caribou is better than Deer, not as good as Moose. Of course I've only ever eaten NFLD Moose and Caribou. Both are suppose to differ from their mainland counterparts.....or so I'm told.
