Rock chucker mounting question

Hey guys, just got my RCBS rock chucker supreme kit and was a little surprised to find it doesn't have mounting hardware.

I'm going to build a large work bench this weekend to mount it on, would two bolts going into the wood be sufficient to hold this guy on?

3/8 shank or 3/8 head?

I'm wondering what I'm going to use to throw those bolts through the wood I think my buddy has a cordless impact wrench...

Are you planning on using Lag Screws rather than bolts?

Unless you have at least a 2 inch thick wood top the lag screws will cause nothing but grief.

As Foggy mentioned 3/8" through bolts will work just fine.
 
You might consider bolting it to a board (say a short length of 2x10) and clamping it to your workbench to start with. This will let you try the press in a number of locations before committing to a permanent spot.
 
RCBS offers an accessory plate that you attach to your table first.
It has numerous holes and corresponding bolts that allow you to bolt the press, trimmer and other items to it. Easy to mount and demount the individual items to it if you have a small bench and need room. I find that it also tends to spread the pressure or force that you place on the table top to help reduce damaging the top and ripping out bolts.
 
I have a large portion of my basement that is unfinished and essentially my work area. I'm going to be custom building the work bench and I know where I want it.

I'm gonna go with a couple long 3/8 bolts with those self locking nuts and some washers, I'll let you know how it works out.

That will work just fine. Retighten it all after the inital reloads and forget about it.
 
The suggestion to initially mount it to a piece of 2x10 and shift it around to settle on the best spot is excellent.

As to bolts, IMHO go for 'carriage bolts' of an appropriate length, with a washer and a lock washer underneath. Smooth heads are less likely to catch on something and the square bit underneath helps stability, I think. They're also easier to tighten up as only one wrench is needed.

Ruffbird - looks like your press is the same vintage as mine. I take it the cut-down plastic container is to catch the primers? How well does it work?
 
When bolted from the under side of the bench you might want to use large washers or a piece of steel to prevent the heads of the bolts or nuts, depending which way you have them, from compressing into the wood and becoming loose. My bench has a piece of flat cutting edge inletted and fastened to the bench with carriage bolts, but the grade 8 bolt shanks that hold the press in place are welded to the cutting edge. I have a piece of quarter inch plywood acting as a gasket between the two steel surfaces.

You dont "throw" bolts through wood.
you drill a proper size hole.

You do not drill the hole with an impact wrench. You would drill the hole with a 3/8" bit in a drill, either cordless, or plug in.

Let me guess. You grew up in a city?
