Often I see rock polishers for sale used dirt cheap, garage sales, Kijiji etc. I guess they don't keep little Johnny occupied like the parents hoped...who knew. ;)
Anyway what are your thoughts on these being used for polishing brass? Same thing right? no?

Thanks
A

I've used one for 25 yrs. Works great. Rubber gasket on lid is a little worn and cracked. 50 7.62x54R cases are being cleaned right now. I use regular commercial tumbler media in mine.

Me too.... my brass cleaner is in fact an old rock polisher and it works, as far as I know, about the same as a more expensive "dedicated" brass cleaner. I've also had my for 25+ years, it's always worked fin.

That's what I started out with, and it worked so good I copied it only with a 10 litre olive barrel instead

I use a Lortone QT-12 as a brass tumbler and I prefer it to vibratory tumblers because it is much quieter. If you can find a used one for a good price, so much the better.

Generally the only problem using rock polishers as brass tumblers is that their capacity tends to be smaller so you can't do as much brass at one time. Other than that they are pretty much mechanically identical.

Mine is over 25 years old, and still works but the lid would come off occasionally.
It would be similar to the A-R 6.
A threaded rod was run through the lid and bottom and that worked until the bottom collapsed.
Then I used a 7 1/2 inch saw blade to support the bottom and the lid is held in place with a wing nut and washers.
Until the motor crashes it is good enough for me.

I recently decided to invest in a rock tumbler too, to clean small handfuls of brass. Any recommendations for what to use to tumble the brass (water, soap, vinegar, Lemi-shine, media, etc)?

Thanks.

I use stainless steel pins, dishsoap and lemishine in my thumlers tumbler and my brass comes out fantastic.

I bought everything here.....shipping was expensive though.

I wouldn't have thought you could use steel media in a vibratory tumbler. Hmmm.... I've been rocking the crush walnut lizard bedding from Ricks petstore in Pet... I think I paid 13 bucks for a hefty bag. Once in a while I add a cap full or 2 of lymans casing cleaner. I'm aching to get a sonic cleaner though.....

My tumbler doesnt vibrate....it is a cylinder that rotates on a couple rollers. (Thumlers Tumbler) .
It is a good system and the steel pins even clean out the primer pockets .

my brass polisher/tumbler is a kids rock polisher I picked up at toys-r-us. can tumble/clean 40 222 brass at a time which is lots for me. I use corn cob pet bedding from pets unlimited(the kids get it for their hamsters).I just add a capful of nu-finish liquid car polish in with it. the tumbler was around 50 bucks.

Corn cob or walnut media for vibratory cleaners and SS pins for tumblers/rock polisher. I don't think stainless pins will work well in a vibratory.
