Rockwell JawHorse as a basic gun vise?

I walked by my JawHorse today and thought that it could be used to hold a rifle to do some cleaning and optics installs. I clamped one of my rifles in there and it holds well and doesn't scuff/mark my composite stock. Can probably put some softer rubber in jaws to be a little bit more 'gentle' with the gun. The Real Avid Gun Vise has similar size jaws as the JawHorse, and can articulate. As an amateur I don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze in spending more money on the Avid.

I've searched the threads and haven't seen anyone on here or google using one of these. Anyone here ever used a JawHorse for gun maintenance?

Can't see why not if you have one already. For what it's worth, I just use a basic machinist's vise with plywood or rubber jaw pads and clamp on the barrel. Been using it for years. Works like a charm, holds everything tight, and I've never marred the finish on a rifle or handgun yet.

Thanks. I think so also. It folds away and is quite portable (a little heavy at 45 lbs). Will use it to mount a new scope.
