Roedale Precision muzzle brake

What is the bore size of that stainless insert? What you are going to find is that the tip of the insert will get peened by the high velocity plasma. That will cause the bore to close up somewhat. I that bore is too tight to begin with it could cause "bullet strikes" which totally destroy all accuracy.

FWIW a conical baffle is not nearly so efficient at stripping off high velocity has as you might think. It can only really affect the outside surface of the gas jet. Otherwise the gas jet tends to flow straight forward without being affected. That's the reason conical baffles are not used much in silencers these days.

Pete Lincoln, of Roedale, spent a hell of pile and money testing his brake design in more than one laboratory in Europe. He has sent hundreds of brakes, to happy customers like me, all over the world. Tens of thousands of rounds have been shot through his brakes. I have yet to read of one instance of a bullet strike due to your theory. A brake is not a silencer. While they share certain characteristics, they are not the same.
In short, to the OP, I would certainly be more inclined to seek out advice from those that actualy own and use the product as opposed to those that have not.

You guys probably think I'm a wuss but I want one for my Tikka Varmint 204. Contrary to claims about the 204, I cannot spot my shots. May be inexperience but I still think it would be awesome to have that RP MB on my 204. :)

Then get one, they do make them in .22 cal inserts. Get it threaded by a good gunsmith (usually 50-75 bucks or so?) since it's stainless you don't even need to refinish it, then get ahold of the threaded type! I'd say the 5/8th x 24 would be best as most North american MFG's use that for their .30 cal rifles, so you can get MANY different types of muzzle devices if you wish.

Nothing wrong with it, they make follow up shots (especially for varmints) very fast and easy (at least speaking from the SAKO brake, the RP one should be even better)! Just be prepared for a little more noise :D

No way id consider getting the barrel machined. One of the reasons I like RP is that they offer a clamp style. Then if I want to put it on another rifle I can. Will just have to get it bored out. (I plan on buying a larger cal tikka)
Oh ya. Noise. A guy was shooting a 223 @ the range with one. Crazy loud.

Just be careful, I've heard of occurrences of them "jumping" off the muzzle since they provide so much forward force, you may be able to get away with it for a .204 but keep checking the position, to make sure it isn't slipping forwards. and definitely tighten the heck out of the clamp screws with it.

F22_Raptor, thank you for the pictures, and the write up. I have been looking at these brakes for my TikTac a while. They have been suggested by many shooters. Any update as to how useful these brakes are, and how your liking it, if you're still using it, that is. Also, F22, you mentioned that yours is in the parked finish, which, the TikTac is finished in, but, it looks like an off colour of the black found on the rifle - is this just the camera, or is it very noticeable?

Thanks.

Zombie thread! :p Didn't see this until now!

I tried out the Roedale a couple times, but finally got my A.A.C. Titan 18x1 brake (had on order for over half a year) so have the R.P. Brake set aside for now.

Firstly about finish, my Tikka's barrel is painted, the original barrel was much lighter grey in finish so natural finish would be a better match to the R.P. brake, although I think the harder alloy in the brake makes it a little lighter colour compared to barrel.

The couple times I went out with it, it actually wasn't much (if at all) louder than the factory Sako brake, which kinda surprised me. Was definitely more effective though - just too heavy for what I wanted to do with the gun. One thing I noticed about it versus the Sako factory brake, is the Roedale is MUCH less forgiving about gun cant. Even a little off level and it kicked pretty hard to the side, so you have to watch out about that. Really nice brake though, if I had a 24" barrel with a bigger scope I might still use it, but I wanted to keep the gun as light as possible so I can take the scope off and use it as a brush gun as well (with the barrel mounted irons).

Yes, back from the dead!
Thank you F22 for the reply, I appreciate it. Do you happen to still own the original TikTac barrel to compare finishes to? Having 2 different colour attachment are a minor pet peeve of mine, sticks out like a sore thumb. Although the RP is a decent looking break, I don't want much attention drawn towards it. I just hope they have a finish to match the T3's parkerization tinge

Thanks again, F22.

Thanks again, F22.

The original barrel is still on the gun :p (just installed Iron sights and then painted) just covered in paint.

HOWEVER I still have the factory thread protector so I'll grab some pics of that for you:

The brake is still a little lighter than the thread protector, but IIRC the Tikka's barrel was a little more uneven in finish and a little lighter than the thread protector.

(Big pics so I'll leave them as just links)

You can also possibly look into the Dark Anthracite (TiAIN) or one of the cera-coated finishes as well if you want a more matte black finish.

I don't know why my reply wasn't posted from yesterday, but thank you F22 for your replies and pictures - I really appreciate it. The colour match is more then good enough for me. I have placed my order with them, and hopefully I will receive it this year, according to what many say about the shipping. :)
