I have recently started reloading for standard division, and quickly learnt how aggravating loading 40sw is.

This is only a problem if you, like me, have only military or police brass. Most of the 40 around me comes from them and the brass is bulged.

I am looking at buying a roll sizer (made in Australia) but I can’t justify the cost. It is highly overpriced considering it costs more than a reloading machine...

I have considered u dies and gx redding dies but resizing the bulge manually is not an option.

Has anybody in Canada been able to replicate or can copy the machine?

Long shot, but wanted to ask.

I do not shoot in competition like you do Avenida but I do use range pickup brass and use a Lee bulge buster kit. And this is nothing more than pushing the cases through a Lee factory crimp die with the carbide ring in its base. This being said if I pickup a case with a visible glock bulge I toss it in the trash because it weakens the case and is not worth reloading.

And all a Lee U die does is size the upper portion of the case smaller in diameter to compensate for brass spring back with older and harder cases. The EGW U dies are made by Lee but EGW states that their die sizes further down the case.

"A must for the serious reloader: EGW offers custom designed, carbide sizing dies that are 0.003" smaller in diameter than typical dies. Not only is it smaller in diameter, the bottom corner is radiused which sizes the case further down. This helps prevent feed failures from cases that bulged near the base during reloading- which is typical of brass fired in Glocks and other loose chambered guns."

Bottom line, the EGW U die might fix your problem for much less money, and I have read that some reloaders grind more off the bottom of the U dies to size further down the case if needed. You could also grind down the top of a shell holder and this would push the case further into the die.

Another possible fix for you , not sure if it's any cheaper though. A company callled Magma Engineering's Case Master Jr. at the time I was told about it it cost approx.325.00 US plus dies
As far as I understand they make the dies in 9-40-45 Hope this helps you
 
I talked to the owner of the roll sizer, cant put a motor in that one only a drill. It is geared differently he said and a motor would kill the mqchine quickly.
Not sure what to think of that if you catch my drift.

Thanks, yes this is certainly an option that would not break the bank, but it is time consuming.

Another thing that I was explained when I chatted with the owner of roll sizer, is that the bulge is completely removed as it is roll sized the bulged is pushed up through until it is gone. Cases go back to spec and can be reloaded infinite times. They reload 357 and can reload the same case over 30 times. Word for word, that is what I was told.

I still find the machine highly overpriced for what it is.

well, After some research last night I have found a few options besides the roll sizer.

The case master doesnt have a lot of good reviews and it is nothing more than a press and die system, the automated system is 6000 thousand dollars USD, wow.

Another option is the Case Pro, it runs around 900 to 1000 USD can be automated for more $$ and it needs a dillon brass feeder. The machine is big too and quite the contraption.

Last is the roll sizer, I can get a manual one and add a drill to automate it. It isnt great but it is faster than by hand.

Now the best part, talked for a few hours last night with the owner and he has offered me to run a bulk order and get a very very decent discount per unit. I am located in Ottawa so ideally the bulk order should be done locally, but I dont think it will be difficult to transport or ship these once in Canada using regular mail..

This is interesting, but I do not know how to go around organizing this in this forum, do not want to break any rules!

First I would like to gauge the interest! I would need a minimum of 10 units to make this work. I can provide more details once I get the nod from the admins to make sure it is ok to do this???

Discounts will be tiered to the amount of machines we order, more machines more discount but it maxes out obviously.

I’ll need 10 machines to make it worthwhile, that would give us 20%, It is less of we order less machines . A few more to go!
If there is a miracle and we get more than 10, we might be able to squeeze a 25%.

Doable? Gotta be some reloders wanting this machine! It is the catz in USA

I can't help with the group buy as I already picked up a roll sizer last winter but can say it is a great machine and works awesome. I've rolled ~100k 9mm and ~15K 5.56 so far. It's a very heavy duty machine, will last longer than the user and their kids.

With a casefeeder upgrade it can do 6,600 pistol cases a hour or 4,400 rifle cases a hour.

I'm pretty sure group buys need to be approved by CGN admin (or at least they used to) - check with them to avoid unforeseen problems.

I have a casepro100 and it works phenomenally well on .40 Even the worst glocked brass comes out beautiful, and the carbide dies in my 550's and 1050's run so smooth now.

Buy once, Cry Once.

If you have doubts, send me 500 of your cleaned brass and I will run them through for you to try.
