The INTENT of the law (which does enter into it, just a bit) was to keep anything using available ammo as a more-or-less restricted item. That included 12-bores because the famous firearms centre doesn't know or doesn't care that there are half a dozen different lengths and that the OLD guns were chambered for shorties with Black powder.
It's nothing about public safety, you see: it's ALL about JOBS for Bureaucrats. We have gone one better than Lenin. Lenin wanted to liquidate all the 'useless eaters', as he termed them. The Liberals were much smarter: they HIRED all the 'useless eaters' and thus BOUGHT THEIR VOTES.
Interesting to sit around a campaign HQ during an election and watch the returns coming in. You can PREDICT broadly how any poll is going to vote, pretty much before the writ is issued. It is, of course, against the law to ethnically or racially profile anything or anybody in Canada.... but this is the actual basis of our electoral system. Get involved, go there, watch it for yourself. Reservations tend to vote overwhelmingly NDP, districts with a lot of people on Welfare vote heavily NDP, independent businessmen vote Conservative...... but Government workers.... and Lawyers.... and Teachers.... all vote solid Liberal. So-called 'ethnic' districts vote for 'their own' candidate who then screams that the rest of us are all racists.
It is a balancing-act between the Earners and the Eaters, between Tax-PAYERS and Tax-USERS and it is all right there, in the poll-by-poll from YOUR last election in YOUR district. It doesn't sound pretty at all but it is the truth. The people who PAY for the country are trying to fight a rear-guard action to preserve some of what THEY have worked for...... and everybody else is trying to see how much they can TAKE.
The basis of any Socialist State is to promise the People that you will give them everything they want... and pay for it with somebody ELSE's money. The problem is that, sooner or later, you bankrupt 'Somebody Else' and the Masses still want more.
The only way we can ever hope to salvage anything from this mess is to get involved, locally and on a Constituency level, in the filthy sewer that is the Canadian electoral process.
Until then, they can register my blackpowder, short-case 12-bore, even if it is well over a century old. I still have my 11-gauge double!
