I just ordered some Romanian ammo from Tradex. At $199 with free shipping it was the cheapest I have seen. Anybody use this stuff befor? As long as it reliably goes bang I am happy.

Its no more corrosive than any other ammo. What year/vintage is on the crate? I have some that shoots dirty, and other batch that shoots less dirty. Has no effect on shooting, just an observation when cleaning.

Tradex has it listed as 70s mfg. It's amazing the price difference. If it's that good I should buy another couple of cases. I was actually looking to buy some 303 bullets for reloading but they were out. So as I was perusing the ammo section I saw the Romanian and some 8 X 56r for my Manlicher. Spent more on that stuff than I would have on the 303 (they were out)

Its good stuff, never had any problems , am just finishing off the last few bixes of my 2nd crate, cheap and reliable.

It's good ammo, dirty, but good. For some odd reason it also smelled like egg salad farts the last time I was shooting it, but it gave the brother in-law and I a few good laughs.

Brother in law and myself use it in our SKS and VZ58 (respectively) and it's been shooting fine for both of us. He SKS is doing 2 inch groups at 100 yards with iron sights. I still have to see how my VZ treats it at 100 yards yet, but the 25 yard results are promising so far.

I had a bad crate of it. It caused malfunctions in seven different rifles (6 SKS, one 858). I believe the problem was it was inconsistently loaded, as at least once every hundred rounds I would get a round that seemed to give me half as much recoil and wouldn't send the piston back with enough force to actuate the rifle again, and would usually cause a stovepipe. Slightly more rarely, I would get a round that seemed to have more recoil than any other 7.62x39mm ammunition I've ever fired, including the Czech stuff which is in my experience on the hot side. Upon inspection of the casings that did that, I found them cracked.

That aside, the ammunition fired well but did operate on the dirty side when compared to most other surplus loadings. This bad crate was received by me about two years ago now, and I honestly say I'd buy the Romanian ammo again despite the issues. I've never heard of anybody else having these problems, so I think it was a pretty isolated thing. Such is life with surplus ammo.

The crate of Romanian x39 i have is still 99℅ full as I'm still working on my Czech crates.
My Romanian x39 is brass cased by the way.

Is there a thread around that has the codes listed for where the ammo was made?
I notice in some stores that some of the crates have very few markings .
Yesterday at a local store the woman didnt know where it came from but the top of each crate had a triangle with one saying "3" and the other '28" i recall.
